If the moderating crew would have me back, Id volunteer to be a mod of the board.
I teach chemistry so i can handle it.

I find it scary that some people don't understand that science is SO MUCH MORE than just "lulz chemistry and physics, nerdz".

I can't complain though, it will rid the Lounge of
garbage science/math threads.
Go hard.

Why not a "How Calvin and Hobbes Can Be Applied to Everyday Situations" subforum?
I mean the strip has been finished for almost 17 years yet the proof is in ixcuincle's pudding.

Of course, ixcuincle has to derail yet another thread.

It's not really derailing.

Bad idea. We already have a political forum, where any controversial-like topic is discussed.

See, the people who don't visit the political forum enough think it's just politics there. It's not. Most serious topics get sent there.
It's a political forum in name only.

In the politics section.
10% Real Discussion
90% Troll and Flame Fest
I have better discussions in the lounge.

Plus we already have an all-purpose science thread over at the PF:
http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...d.php?t=970299
and no one has posted in it in almost 3 weeks. An entire subform for science would be extremely inactive.

That's because it's unmoderated. Most regular PF posters would be banned by now if it were treated like the rest of HF.

Its more limited moderation as nothing illegal can be posted in there or the attacks on a poster are based on race, sex, sexual orientaion, religion, color, national origion, etc. Oh and going off-topic is not allowed either.

And? Other topics discussed in the politics forum include religion, history, law, economics, etc. All of these are not political per se, but do often intertwine with politics. Science is no different.
Also, would the 'science' forum be only the natural sciences?
What if others want to start a forum on any other topic they choose? You could make an argument for countless more subforums on HF if we're going to make a science one. I mean, I'd like to see a finance/investing forum too.
I'm with ixcuincle on this.

"Just use that one, conglomerated, rat's nest in the Political Forum"
So the mods are essentially too lazy to give us a Science forum.

No. The reasons why it's not going to happen have already been listed.

They're completely bogus reasons. The alternative given to us "just use the political forum" is a total joke.

There are currently 934,100 threads on HF. We're asking for one more board.
It's not like we want a sub section for just Aliens, or drugs, or porn, or favorite movie candy. It's Science! It's arguably one of the most important and influential things in existence and it has world wide appeal.
It's going to be really ****** when I make a thread about the latest advancements in particle acceleration and half of the responses in my thread are going to be "juzmo" or Pokemon memes.
Science is simply too broad a topic to be crammed into another board, or worse yet, a single thread.
What if I made a petition? How many members would I need to justify a new Science Board?
