I'm not sure that anyone can fairly argue that Omark was "given a chance". Sadly for him he is a shrimp and I think this was a big factor in the number of NHL games he got. There was also the unfortunate injury that couldn't possibly have happened at a worse time. Finally it appears that Omark didn't want to be in the AHL. He could have stuck around and played in the AHL and he might be getting a chance right now. On the last point he can only blame himself, but the first two points were largely out of his control.
Fine for the fans to judge him on the hype, but I would hope and expect that the team management would look a little deeper.
He put up 0.5 PPG in the NHL and 1 PPG in the AHL. Given his stats in other leagues, its pretty hard to say that he isn't good enough.
The facts are that he failed to crack the roster on the worst team in the league that was begging for offence. And also it stands to reason that he also doesn't have any trade value or he would be traded by now. I'm sure there are many reasons why things transpired the way they did but going forward he isn't a real concern for this franchise anymore...if you can get a 4th rd. pick you take it.
I fully believe Omark could make out an NHL career for himself given the right opportunity on the 2nd line with plenty of power play time, he would put up points. I am not sure if he can provide enough aside from that to justify a spot on anything but a weak NHL teams roster, if Omark stuck with the program, didn't get hurt when he did, and kept his mouth shut he would of gotten more opportunity here than he did.
I'm thinking Omark will probably play just shy of 200 NHL games in his career and will be probably floating around the 80-90 point range. While something many may scoff that's more than a decent cup of coffee in the NHL. If I was an NHL GM and had an unexpected injury in my top 6 (for a prolonged period of time) and my team was struggling to score and the organization lacked a decent replacement call-up, I would gamble a 3rd round pick on him.
I agree there is similairities to Nilsson, but even he got 251 games in the NHL. Omark does have 1 attribute that seperates him from Nilsson in that he is far better at protecting the puck and stronger along the boards and thereby less likely to create a turnover which would not go unnoticed by coaches.

This is exactly what Harti just said. He has moved all his belongings excluding golf clubs up to EDM and has no intentions of being back in OKC.
Im taking it as 'boy he sure is confident' at this time.
edit: Omark will be given a chance by a team once he becomes a free agent and should be able to stick around the NHL as a 2nd liner for 4/5 years ala Robert Nilson . The kid is a lot more than Schremp.

I tracked this player very closely throughout.
It was a rare time when Omark was a .5ppg player so thats a bit misleading. Much of the time he was closer to a .333ppg player and in his one full season his pts went up towards the end of the season. He struggled to produce much for most of that season. Keep in mind as well he scored only 5 goals that year, only 8 in his entire career here, and as such was a one dimensial passing only threat and this usually taking place from the periphery. Omark, most importantly never established any goal scoring touch around the net here and something that would have made him more valuable and that would've have filled a niche.
So he ends up being a veteran player that muster 8 goals and 30pts in 65GP and for a player that was only ever here for the offence and didn't contribute too much of that.

Nelson was also on and commented on how you have to be patient as some guys get it and some don't. He said he was very worried about Harti and Lander to start the year, but they eventually realized that they need to listen.

Omark would've worked here in the 90's, would've been a cheap option to put on a PP. But now in a capped league and with more parity and without a few teams hoarding a lot of the player talent theres less niche for a player like Omark in the NHL. Specialists used to more acceptable to teams lacking an influx of talent. Theres fewer of those teams around now and more equality in rosters.
In a capped league I don't hold a lot of value for peripheral pass first PP players that aren't getting much else done.
He could be good specialist. Might be that theres still team(s) that could use that. I don't see him landing longterm somewhere in the NHL. More a 1-2 yr contract I suspect.

No ones says that omark should have topline minutes in the oilers! He isnt suited for a checking line and 4th line duty! He is a offensive creater and need to play within a scoring line or not play at all. You dont take a chance on omark if you seeking a checkingline twoway player and a 4th liner, you do it for his offensive qualititys.
