I'm not sure that anyone can fairly argue that Omark was "given a chance". Sadly for him he is a shrimp and I think this was a big factor in the number of NHL games he got. There was also the unfortunate injury that couldn't possibly have happened at a worse time. Finally it appears that Omark didn't want to be in the AHL. He could have stuck around and played in the AHL and he might be getting a chance right now. On the last point he can only blame himself, but the first two points were largely out of his control.
Fine for the fans to judge him on the hype, but I would hope and expect that the team management would look a little deeper.
He put up 0.5 PPG in the NHL and 1 PPG in the AHL. Given his stats in other leagues, its pretty hard to say that he isn't good enough.
The facts are that he failed to crack the roster on the worst team in the league that was begging for offence. And also it stands to reason that he also doesn't have any trade value or he would be traded by now. I'm sure there are many reasons why things transpired the way they did but going forward he isn't a real concern for this franchise anymore...if you can get a 4th rd. pick you take it.
I fully believe Omark could make out an NHL career for himself given the right opportunity on the 2nd line with plenty of power play time, he would put up points. I am not sure if he can provide enough aside from that to justify a spot on anything but a weak NHL teams roster, if Omark stuck with the program, didn't get hurt when he did, and kept his mouth shut he would of gotten more opportunity here than he did.
I'm thinking Omark will probably play just shy of 200 NHL games in his career and will be probably floating around the 80-90 point range. While something many may scoff that's more than a decent cup of coffee in the NHL. If I was an NHL GM and had an unexpected injury in my top 6 (for a prolonged period of time) and my team was struggling to score and the organization lacked a decent replacement call-up, I would gamble a 3rd round pick on him.
I agree there is similairities to Nilsson, but even he got 251 games in the NHL. Omark does have 1 attribute that seperates him from Nilsson in that he is far better at protecting the puck and stronger along the boards and thereby less likely to create a turnover which would not go unnoticed by coaches.
Omark barked for icetime and was smacked down here,Hartikainen has the audacity to tell us all he has nothing left to prove in the AHL and we celebrate him??
Omark has a patented spin move that no NHL defencmen were or are able to handle consistantly and he parlays that move into offensive opportunitys with astounding regularity,I could build a championship 1st or 2nd line off of him alone with that move,it draws way more penaltys than say a hemsky or a hall rush does, and that alone is solid gold in todays NHL.
If Calgary had any brains they would sign him and do exactly as i said.Omark is a PP machine. He will play in the NHL fulltime and for more than a cup of coffe if he is recognised for his strengths that dominate NHL caliber players, and those are all based off of one unbeatable puck protection move enabled by his small stature, the guy is a genius,he found a way to maximise his strengths and be very effective in the best league in the world, sooner or later a team will see that value and pick him up and use him how he was meant to be utilised,St Louis would be my pick as he seems to be a natural fit there.

Omark said he had nothing to prove in the AHL.
Unless Hartsi had some sort of new interview the one I read was from September or something and he was saying that one more year in the AHL(which would be this year) and after that he'd either take a one-way deal or go back to Europe to play as he'd have to realize his NHL career was over.

This is exactly what Harti just said. He has moved all his belongings excluding golf clubs up to EDM and has no intentions of being back in OKC.
Im taking it as 'boy he sure is confident' at this time.
edit: Omark will be given a chance by a team once he becomes a free agent and should be able to stick around the NHL as a 2nd liner for 4/5 years ala Robert Nilson . The kid is a lot more than Schremp.
I didn't see the article? With that being said, Harti is here. He went to OKC this year, do we actually know that he'd refuse if sent down?
no idea.. The article spun it in a positive way saying how Harti brought 70lbs of luggage with him to EDM and left nothing but golf clubs in OKC.
"He’s so confident that he’s here to stay that he packed up most of his belongings and carted them from Oklahoma City to Edmonton. He brought a 70-pound suitcase, the sticks that Taylor Hall had left behind, plus his hard-as-nails attitude. All he left behind were a few pair of shoes and his golf clubs.
“Why not?” he said. “I had a good half in OKC. I have good confidence. I feel pretty ready. I don’t feel I have anything else to prove down there right now.”"

All Oilers players/prospects should just have their lips stitched shut, that way dummies on HF would never be able to spin anything they say negatively again.

I tracked this player very closely throughout.
It was a rare time when Omark was a .5ppg player so thats a bit misleading. Much of the time he was closer to a .333ppg player and in his one full season his pts went up towards the end of the season. He struggled to produce much for most of that season. Keep in mind as well he scored only 5 goals that year, only 8 in his entire career here, and as such was a one dimensial passing only threat and this usually taking place from the periphery. Omark, most importantly never established any goal scoring touch around the net here and something that would have made him more valuable and that would've have filled a niche.
So he ends up being a veteran player that muster 8 goals and 30pts in 65GP and for a player that was only ever here for the offence and didn't contribute too much of that.

So what you are telling me is he had nothing and brought just about everything?
People take 70lbs when they go to mexico for a week.
Also the guy isn't saying he won't go back down. He's a kid that feels he has a chance to make the team. He even goes on to say at the time that he has nothing to prove right NOW. He gets beat out of camp he'll have something to prove.

He said nothing wrong at all, especially given the timing and how he was playing.

When he got topline toi and a lot of pp due injurys, his points went up! thats why i have omark as questionmark. he developed good true that first season with a slow start with low toi in a third line. He did draw penaltys 2 th in the team behind taylor hall(minutes played). valuate omark after that season and a spoiled second one isnt easy. But now he isnt a option for us, thats easy to notice when take a look at our wingers.

yes.. That is just what I said.. I never said that he wont go back down just that he said that he doesnt think he has anything to prove in AHL right now..
edit: This was in your response to Omark saying he has nothing to prove in the AHL.. The guy like Harti believed he had nothing left to do at AHL level.

Honestly I think the problem is lack of development. He has the skill no doubt, but doesn't seem to develop.
Gregor and Brownlee talked about Teubert yesterday and how he's one of those guys that has skill, but he just doesn't get it. Nelson was also on and commented on how you have to be patient as some guys get it and some don't. He said he was very worried about Harti and Lander to start the year, but they eventually realized that they need to listen.
Omark like Teubert could still make the NHL, but if they don't start putting the time in they will be like Nillson and Schremp, and not like a guy like Strudwick who understood what he had to do.
Oh, I fully agree. But I'm not the one you need to be telling that to.
Honestly I don't know what this team or it's players can do. No matter what they'll get **** on.
Hall: I like playing in Edmonton
Fans: Why didn't he said he loved playing in Edmonton?

Omark would've worked here in the 90's, would've been a cheap option to put on a PP. But now in a capped league and with more parity and without a few teams hoarding a lot of the player talent theres less niche for a player like Omark in the NHL. Specialists used to more acceptable to teams lacking an influx of talent. Theres fewer of those teams around now and more equality in rosters.
In a capped league I don't hold a lot of value for peripheral pass first PP players that aren't getting much else done.
He could be good specialist. Might be that theres still team(s) that could use that. I don't see him landing longterm somewhere in the NHL. More a 1-2 yr contract I suspect.

This post is just all sorts of awesome. I think it runs parallel to the plot from a movie I saw.

Nelson also told us that omark is to good for the ahl! The problem here im think is that omark came to the worst team in nhl and got 3/4 th line minutes there with players who arent suited or had talent for offensive hockey. With his talent, you dont try to make him a two way player, you give him linemates so he can do what hes best of. He hasnt had defensive issues in former teams and the national team. These team was good enough to spend signific time in offensive zone and didnt have to defend every shift. A team who can find and afford to give him decent playmates and also good matching linemates can use his talent in the best way possible. Is he worth all that ? , thats the question.?

That's the difference between him and Harti. Omark basically demands that he get top-6 minutes, but there isn't room in our top-6 for him. Every single player in our top two lines is better then him. Harti knows that he's going to be playing on the third and fourth line. And he has proven he can do that. He'll probably be on the third until Jones gets back, and then take Petrell spot on the fourth after that.

No ones says that omark should have topline minutes in the oilers! He isnt suited for a checking line and 4th line duty! He is a offensive creater and need to play within a scoring line or not play at all. You dont take a chance on omark if you seeking a checkingline twoway player and a 4th liner, you do it for his offensive qualititys.
