NHL lockout/playing in Europe question

I was reading an article this morning about the possibility of an NHL lockout this year and how many of the NHL players are already making plans to play in Europe if that happens.

I have a question. What if there is a lockout this year and an NHL Player signs a deal to play in Germany for example. While on that team , late in the spring, he gets an injury (shatters an ankle blocking a shot; gets hit an an awkward angle and a bad concussion) something that will spill over and keep him off the ice next year.

The NHL resumes and he's still injured. Is his NHL team still paying him when he got hurt playnig for another team/league?

How does that work?

i know for NBA.. for players who came to europe clubs have to pay massive amount of cash for insurance... thats why NBA players couldnt help their "first" teams, which are many times too poor for paying insurance.
