Turris must be doing all the right things this offseason. I like the deal.

Turris did play with Alfredsson which helped him play better, but Turris came through on multiple occasions when he was relied upon and you can see the type of game he plays, smart and responsible. I hope he can anchor the 2nd line on his own in the future and I think he can.

Bizarre deal. Hopefully it works out as well as Kronwall's deal did.

Last season Turris was our best defensive center and his line was used by 'Stache most often against the best players of the other team (though some of the reason behind that was that Alfie was on his line)

$3.5mil per is about what good defensive centers get on the open market. Considering the last two years of the deal are buying out UFA years, this deal is a slight overpayment only if he doesn't progress in his offensive development at all.
MacLean didn't have a shut down line last season. He rolled the lines fairly equally against opponents based on the quality of how their relatives looked in a corset.

I count 3 UFA years.
A player can only play upwards of 7 years in the NHL before them become a UFA. Turris had his 3yr ELC with Phoenix and 2yrs with us at $1.4M before this deal kicks in. He would have only been 2 years away from UFA.

My favorite Turris memory came against in the Isles game when Alfie and Spezza were both ruled out at the last minute. We needed the win to clinch a playoff spot and Turris came up huge in that game.

With some weight on him finally he could turn into one of the better 2nd line centers in the league, offensively AND defensively.
I'm glad someone said this, I've always been impressed with his positioning and stickwork for a guy who was drafted as a scorer. At the same time though there were a few times when I genuinely laughed out loud as he would try to throw a hit and fall over. That new picture looks promising, he's clearly packed on some muscle.

The butthurtedness directed from Edmonton towards Ottawa these days is pretty epic. Even Toronto fans like this deal. Oiler fans feel as strongly about this as Phoenix fans apparently. lolz.

Oiler fans are irate about anything that takes attention away from their lottery winnings.

I used to like Oiler fans. Now they just seem like a bunch of whiney ******** cry babies in every thread I go to not on the Sens board.

Not even kidding when I say that the Oilers were one of my Top 5 teams before coming to HF, and at some point last year they slipped to 30th. Now they're just a meh team.

You know what really pisses me off though? Sens Mods who are also Oilers fans.

Salary is ok (Would have preferred 2.5 - 3.0) and term is a little long.
Murray is pretty impulsive with contracts when players are doing well though, so we'll see.

Worst-case scenario he becomes a regressing Mike Fisher and we trade him for a pick.
Best-case scenario he's Mike Fisher with better hands and an uglier girlfriend.

You can be sure "that segment" of the fanbase will be on him non-stop though.

I am the only one that is bugged by the use of Fisher in this conversation? I realize most people are just saying that Turris will be like Fisher in the sense that Fisher was our second line center. Or at least I hope that is the case. Fisher brought lots of intangibles to the table. Turris is much more offensively gifted. Overall, between the two I think Turris is better suited for the second line center role.

You mean the 65% of Sens fans, ie the middle aged woman who knows absolutely nothing about hockey?

Turris and Fisher aren't very similar at all.

Fisher is a stud defensively. Turris is above average.

Fisher is strong as a bull. Turris gets/got thrown off the puck fairly easily.

Fisher has aweful shot accuracy and very low offensive hockey IQ. Turris has a lot better accuracy. Hit so many posts last season, was just an inch off every time. He's also a very smart offensive player.

I have to think that if Turris and his agent were half as confident in his abilities as most Sens fans he would have waited a year and really cashed in.

Worst case scenario is that he doesn't improve much and right now, he's significantly less than Fisher was at his peak.
