Or it could be that professional athletes in extremely strenuous sports value job security over potential bank down the road. Turris could suffer a career ending injury in training camp and never earn another contract in hockey again. Today he just made over 17 million dollars, set himself and his family up for the rest of their existence.

I would rather stick a flaming catheter up my pee-hole than have to listen to another Oilers fan weigh in on anything, ever. If only I could find a way to correlate the two actions...

They're jealous they aren't rebuilding right.

They have nothing really behind Eberle Hall RNH and unproven Yakupov.

Unless they plan on winning games 6-5 I really don't see what rebuilding plan Tambellini is structuring his team by.

Oilers fans will be fast to say "HAI U FERGOT ABOOT KLEFBOM AND SCHULTZ!!!1!1!!! OMGG" but those guys have never played an NHL game. No guarentee they amount to anything.

Getting Whitney was a good move but he's made of glass. You can't build your defence around an oft. injured player.

So many Oilers fans I've talked too in the last year or so expect that just because they got numerous #1 picks that they have future stanley cups on lock. None of the players they took are generational game changing players like Malkin, Stamkos, Ovie or Crosby. A lot of casual fans don't seem to understand that.

Edmonton will get there one day.

Don't forget, our "rebuild" was pretty minor. We already had Spezza and Karlsson. Two huge pieces for any team. #1C & #1D. Murray got us Anderson, and all we really gave up were Fisher, Kelly and Elliott.

We had nowhere near as far to go as a team like Edmonton did / does.

Trading Rundblad for Turris looks pretty genius at the moment too.

Actually, the IRL Oiler fans I know all hate Tambo, Lowe and the general direction of that team. Its not a huge group but in my experience they don't all drink the Oil flavoured Kool-Aid.

Getting Schultz was great for them though. He's not an All-star in the making but certainly going to be able to contribute on that type of team in a significant way. I do see them getting better this year and maybe even finishing out of the lottery.

They're biggest problem is Hall imo. Its going to be sad to see the amount of games lost to injury over his career. Even worse than Hemsky.

EDIT: biggest problem outside of the obvious defense, goaltending and management issues.

Highly recommend people read this scouting report thread on Turris.

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...=345290&page=2

I didn't realize that he was being touted pretty hard at one point as a possible number 1 pick. Nice to see the comparisons to Kariya, Sakic, etc.

Loving this signing. The kid has the talent. We've all seen it. It just took him a while to get the numbers coming up. People put this guy down for lack of production. Here's the only stat you need to know about Kyle Turris.

TOI/G
11:16 (2010/11)
12:55 (2008/09)

That time on ice is in JOB territory, less than Condra.

No, I'm saying that comparisons between Turris and Fisher; to the point of saying how easily or surely he'll be able to step only Fisher's shoes are tremendously premature, bordering on absurd.

Venturing towards asinine and eons away from hilarious (i.e inducing hilarity.)

Fisher also made $4.2mil per, when the cap was a lower number than it's set now-a-days, even if you account for a reasonable lowering of the cap due to the new CBA.

Solid deal IMO, pretty fair for both sides. If he puts up 50+ points/year with solid defensive play I'm happy.

I approve of this signing. Good job BMGM! Total steal unless Kyle somehow regresses.

Agreed. The contract is low enough that if he didn't become a contender level 2nd liner center, it would still be palatable for a Comrie-esque or M.Raymond type RW.

What was the number that Turris was asking for during his hold out on the Coyotes? Wasn't it 4mil?

That was the rumor, they also said the reason he asked for that is so the coyotes would have to trade him
