Thanks DT. If someone could post the Top 20 (or Top 25) list of Devils prospects that were voted on by everyone on the Devils board for comparision sake, that would be fantastic. Enjoy everyone and fire away with comments, questions, or anything to do with the list!

Their grades are exactly the same, but given that Gedig is still ascending as a prospect and Corrente really hasn't done much to justify being ranked as a Top 20 prospect. Injuries have been a major issue, no doubt. But he's falling down the depth-chart. Think of Gedig as another potential Mark Fayne. Never going to be a flashy guy, but he does a lot of everything well. I got glowing reports from his play from HF's NCAA beatwriter as well. I was quite surprised to see Gedig not make it in the voting on here.

I find it relatively amusing our first round pick this year is #7. I don't really think it's credit to the depth in our system. Could be our Matthew Corrente 2.0.

Depends how you want to look at it. I'll bet a lot of money he doesn't have the best career of the 20 ranked but he will play in the NHL and have a decent career. It was a safe pick.

That's a spot-on point. Like a good handful of Devils prospects, there isn't a lot of flash, but a guy like Matteau will have likely have a pretty solid, yet unspectacular career.

**** son, our D cupboard is pretty stacked.

Scarlett may be one of the best steals we've made in years, certainly since we nabbed Fayne in the 5th round.

Thanks Jared. Never get to watch any AHL games so I'm happy to hear Urbom is getting better on the defensive side of the puck. Really pumped about Severson and Scarlett, as well as Gelinas.

very interesting that Severson came in better than Matteau, i wonder why teams overlooked him. our D looks ridiculously stacked in the next 2 years or so. one thing i find interesting is the way Lou has planned this team through the draft in recent years. take a bunch of guys at positions that traditionally take longer to develop (Goaltending, Defence) then take some safe forward prospects. i think we'll see a very risky 2013 draft from the Devils when it comes to forwards. gotta stock the cupboards with someone to replace Elias at the top of the order when he retires.

Great article Jared!

And the defensive outlook is even better if you consider that Larsson and Fayne are not eligible for the list anymore, but will be around for a while nonetheless. Very impressive group, and many on the cusp of NHL contribution. Exciting stuff.

In my opinion, yes. I don't see how you couldn't given our strengths and weaknesses.

Lots of D prospects to be excited about.

And lots of chips to move around for some forwards, if that's what Lou decides to do.

just curious, whats that based on if anything? maturity?

im not worried that he'll bust. however, i do see him playing unbelievably well, then bolting for top-$ first chance he gets. but we got aways to go before we get there, and my assumption is purely based on a teenager's maturity

He's an alright player. Good vision, pretty good defensively, but I've got friends watching him at school who say he looks slow/bored. Cap it off with maturity, which I don't believe changes much at this age (The difference between 17-22 is minimal at best) and it'll be too late by the time we'll need him.

+ I think there's a bit of a haze of hockey-pheromones on college players that attracts attention from our board, in particular, which tends to lead to unrealistic expectations.

Whoa... I think that's a little overboard. I'm much different as a human being then I was a year ago, let alone in a 5 year gap like that. I think's a little bit of an unfair leap there.

Never been huge on Merrill either but I dunno if he'll bust or chase the cash, never thought about it.

Aren't we dumping him for Ryan anyway? He ran a sub 3 hour marathon
