Im a finn and like Pekka but i also think he is overrated. He is not a product of the Preds system completely. He would also be a very good goalie in any other team but there's some weaknesses in his game that doesnt show as much in Nashville as would show somewhere else.
It's funny how some people keep calling Rinne just a product of the system when both Quick and Lundqvist were playing behind more defensive-minded systems last year.
I think Rinne, Lundqvist and Quick are the clear-cut top3 goalies in the world and their order depends on who happens to get hot for the longest period. Last year Quick was better than Rinne, next year who knows... You can't overlook the fact that Rinne is the workhorse out of these three (Quick is close though, never realized he was only one game away from joining the club of goalies who played over 70 games during regular season and won SC).
I'll echo this. You can go back and forth to argue who is better, and I give Rinne has a negligible edge there. But Quick being younger and cheaper sways me to want Quick on my team.
Just because Quick has a cap circumvention contract doesn't mean he's cheaper. They make the exact same salary. To some teams, actual salary is all that matters, while cap hit only matters to others. You can't really compare the two. Hopefully the new CBA fixes this issue.
But to be fair you were just answering the OP, even though he shouldn't have worded his question that way. Too much variability since everyone cheers for a different team.
The Kings aren't Vancouver, Ottawa, Washington, or Pittsburgh. It is not like they play a drastically different system than Nashville.
While Nashville is really good defensively up and down their line-up, LA is no slouch in that department either. I don't think the difference the team in front of them make is all the different for these two goalies. They make for a good comparison.
I'll take Rinne. It might be simply because I'm more familiar with him due to him playing in the Central division, but there is no denying Rinne's skill set and overall talent level.
