What in the hell is going on with Marchenko's situation?

Thanks as always with the updates. I am a big McKee fan. So what's the story, is he still ticketed for the ZOO to play with the Broncos this season?

Because that's boring, and insulting to the credibility of professional scouts

He doesn't need to be a finished product to be evaluated (otherwise, there's no point in discussing any prospects). The kid's a 200th overall pick, and pro scouts who have seen him, and who actually drafted him, have basically said he has little-to-no offensive upside. Combined with his other qualities, it does seem like the scout who said he projects better as a defenseman is onto something.

No that is why he is back in Lincoln. He will go to Western next year.

That is a bummer on the Quine news, I was thinking he might have a big year this year. The Petes also have to be in scramble mode without him they traded a lot of their highend talent, need him to get through this in a hurry. Mono has a way of wiping out half a season though, so not good news.

My guess Jaster is that no one was truly watched him enough to know what his offensive limits really are. If he has grown a lot over a short period of time, I wouldn't be shocked if it took a bit of time for the coordination (i.e. hands) to catch up. In the end, a move to defense could be prudent for him. I just don't want anyone rushing to make that judgment.

some tidbits on Nyquist from mlive... big fan of this guy

Quote:
Nyquist, meanwhile, spent the offseason working to improve his strength and shooting skills.

“I feel like I’ve definitely gotten stronger and I’ve been working on my shot a lot, too, so I should be shooting the puck a little more,” he said.

“I’m just going to go down there and work as hard as I can to get better,” Nyquist said. “We’ll hopefully get this solved and I’ll be ready to come up and take a spot on the Red Wings.”

“I think he has everything,'' Henrik Zetterberg said. “He's fast. He's good with the puck. He sees the ice very well.”

Remember he's an unheard of 7th round pick.

Like - Jesper Sammuelsson, Logan Pyett, Bretton Stamler, Nils Backstrom, Mikael Johansson, etc etc.
Not everyone turns into Jon Ericsson or Henrik Zetterberg

By the way, speaking of Mikael Johansson

Last year he had 39 points to lead Farjestad by 12 points.
He has put up four straight 34+ seasons
Looks like he tried and failed to come over to North America in 2009-10. But seems like he's a good player.

Oh, and just for fun. Dick Axelsson has 4 points in 4 games to start the season.

EDIT;
Frolunda seems like a dumping ground for former Red Wings prospects;
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/l...023372013.html

Dick Axelsson
Anton Axelsson
Jari Tolsa
Fabian Brunnstrom

I don't think Brunnström qualified as a prospect when he played for us. Had 2 seasons and 99 games under belt before he came here.

No points for Pulkkinen(4 shots, 19:38 icetime), his line was rather invisible again. I'm guessing they might create a Teräväinen-Filppula-Pulkkinen line for next Tuesday when Val plays his first game, because his brother Ilari's line is working well atm and no reason to break it up.

Other prospects playing tonight: Ouellet, Hudon, Tvrdon, Nedomlel, Sproul, Athanasiou, Paterson, De Haas.

Love this quote from Smith in the Nyquist article.

Quote:
"It's like what I saw in Nick Lidstrom," Smith said. "No matter the day, no matter how he feels, he's a pro. I totally want to emulate him. So that's something I can work on and maybe grow into more of a leadership role in Grand Rapids."
Remember when people had questions about this kid when he was at Wisconsin. He has answered those in a big way since turning pro in my opinion. I think Smith eventually wears a letter during his time in Detroit which I hope is for 15 years.

Ah that's too bad but I guess he will benefit from another year of USHL action.

Based on comments by Jokerit fans, Rita(who played on his off wing on the left) looked great, Pulu looked fine while Teräväinen still has issues.

Not to take anything away from Smith, but isn't that quote more a testament to Nyquist than it is to Smith?

I was there as well. Rita created a couple of chances by himself, TT a couple of fancy moves but lots of giveaways as well, and Pulkkinen really didn't get much done at all. They had a couple of ok shifts late in the 3rd period.

Sproul - PP goal, SH assist, EV assist. So that mean he was on the ice for 3 goals against that weren't on the powerplay. Eeeek.

Järnkrok and Bäckman go head to head tonight. Would be great to see the game so if someone has a stream, please share

Marchenko (and Pavel) was out of the CSKA roster today. Also Bodin was not in the HV71 u20 lineup yet either. Anyone know what his situation is? Brunner making his debut with Zug today as well, 1st line RW playing with Omark and Josh Holden.

They switched Harju with Elias Lindholm on Jarnkrok's line for today's game. Assisted on the GWG, 2-1. Won 3-1.
