I wouldn't say he was playing "amazing." He played remarkably well for an 18/19 year old defenseman, but he was nowhere near just "thrown into the fire." He played big minutes early on in the season, but you cannot deny that he was sheltered, save for the handful of games he lead Devils D in TOI. He showed flashes of absolute brilliance and I expect him to continue to develop into the Norris-contending defenseman that us Devils fans hope he will; however, Hedman's situation was a lot different than Larsson, and Hedman was not able to be as sheltered as Larsson was in his first season. I still take Larsson here though
