Going into the 2012-2013 season, lets make a HFBoards list of the top 30 centers in the NHL. Try not to take potential or the future into consideration. You can however, take into consideration the possible improvement/regressing players might've done this off-season if you're sure about it.
Also, name your player you want to add for the next poll.
#1 - Sidney Crosby His concussion problems seems to be in the past. Still the best center (and player) in the world. #2 - Evgeni Malkin Clear number 2. His last season was, again, proof of how dominating he can be offensively. #3 - Steven StamkosThe best goal scorer in the game right now. Had astonishing 60 goals last season. #4 - Claude GirouxHad a serious breakout year last season. Doesnt matter if its stickhandling, passing or scoring, he can do it all.
Tavares should win this. Datsyuk's age will cause him to decline more and more and you never know when that huge step down comes...It could be next year or it could wait until he's 40. I'd pick Tavares. He's young and is almost a PPG player (just 1 point shy of PPG) on a lottery team. He's got amazing vision and he can make players play better around him. Then again, the aging Datsyuk is purely speculation on my part however Tavares constantly improving at such a young age is a fact that can't be ignored. If Datsyuk wins this, I wont be surprised as it does say "top 30 Centers for the 2012-2013 Season" however I would be surprised if Tavares wasn't #6 and if by next year, he wasn't in the top 5.
Datsyuk for now ... H. Sedin, Tavares, Kopitar, Toews, and Backstrom in some order round out the top 10.
hahahaha spezza?????? 4th in center scoring, 5th in league scoring. 34 goals 84 points in 80 games.... good defensive play, best +/- after malkin in the top 5 leading scorers and 3rd best behind henrik sedin in the top 10. FIRST in faceoffs taken, and has one of the best faceoff percentage/faceoffs taken ratio!!! what else does he need to do???
