HFBoards Top 30 Centers - #6

Going into the 2012-2013 season, lets make a HFBoards list of the top 30 centers in the NHL. Try not to take potential or the future into consideration. You can however, take into consideration the possible improvement/regressing players might've done this off-season if you're sure about it.

Also, name your player you want to add for the next poll.

#1 - Sidney Crosby His concussion problems seems to be in the past. Still the best center (and player) in the world.
#2 - Evgeni Malkin Clear number 2. His last season was, again, proof of how dominating he can be offensively.
#3 - Steven Stamkos The best goal scorer in the game right now. Had astonishing 60 goals last season.
#4 - Claude Giroux Had a serious breakout year last season. Is the heart and soul of the Flyers offense.
#5 - Pavel Datsyuk At the age of 34 he is still the best two-way center in the game.

i'll take the guy who over the past three years has put up more points than anyone already in the top 5, led the league in assists three years straight, led his team to 2 straight presidents trophys, and has a hart and art ross in that time.

Was one game away from the stanley cup; its amazing how if the outcome of that one single game was different, opinions would be reversed greatly. Instead it seems "proven" winners like kopitar and toews are now on par or better

Yep.

He's also led the Western Conference in points 2 of the last 3 seasons(the one time he didn't he came in second to his brother)

Toews.... Then Tavares then Sedin. The Sedins play the most sheltered hockey in the league as far as offensive draws and Qualcomp. No PK tons of PP and They have Zero defensive responsibility.

Easy to do when you're 100% focused and utilized for Offense.

How is Toews even being discussed here? This is a guy who has never once in his career even had a PPG season, and has only scored over 70 points once. His name should not be uttered next to Henrik Sedin, I'll tell you that. I'd certainly have Sedin next with both Spezza and Kopitar ahead of Toews. Toews is becoming extremely overrated.

Ya pretty much this. Defensive prowess is as great as the next thing, but like I've said many times before, give me the creative, offensive dynamo over the defence-machine at my 1C position everyday of the week.

That the Sedins are bad defensively is a misconception. When they first started out they played the PK. Now Vancouver is lucky enough to have elite defensive players(like Kesler and pre-eye injury Malhotra) that it doesn't make sense to waste their talents offensively if a less offensively talented player can handle the minutes instead. And the fact that they have been so successful has shown that it's worth it.

While Sedin is worthy, I got to go with Jonathan "Swiss Army Knife" Toews, who brings a more complete package.

Sound's like you just started watching the Sedin's play.
