AA has NHL level skating, decent size and has great hands. When you're talking about your #19 prospect, you don't write off his kind of skill set. This dude might turn out to be the best forward prospect in our organization when all is said and done. I won't say that's the likely outcome. But it's possible.
There's not a single forward on our list you can say that about.
Andreas Anthanasiou hands down. He should of been higher up I feel. With the hands and speed he has and hitting ability he has, I feel he's a lock to be a 3rd/4th liner like Helm. In that article Bob posted, he was getting 5-10 minutes a game and put up 22 goals. So if he was getting 15+ on top 2 lines, he'd put up 30+ easily. He's young and can change a lot. I feel we'll be seeing him jump up the charts next year right behind Tatar and co.
Not that I think Andreas Athanasiou is really comparable to Helm, because I think if Andreas Athanasiou had Helm's ticker, the Knights wouldn't have moved him ...
But here are Helm's draft year numbers:
72 10 14 24
Here are Athanasiou's numbers
63 22 15 37
Is it reasonable that AA will see his numbers jump like Helm? Helm became a 40 goal man in the OHL.
Can Athanasiou double his production? I think he can. New team. bigger role. A year older and stronger.
I wonder where Athanasiou ranks if he scores 40 goals this year. Then again, Quine scored 30 last year and that doesn't seem to have helped his status
Quine plays in the same league, is also a fantastic skater, and produces more points. Tell me why Athanasiou should be getting more votes than Quine.
Quine has had a pretty big role in getting those points. And he's been a huge minus player, too
Based strictly on upside, I think AA has the better skill set. While Quine is fast, I don't believe he has AA's upside. He's also under 6'0

Shouldn't it be a knock against AA that he wasn't good enough to win a big role to get a chance to put up more points?

Its brutally uninformed posts like this that have Athansiou getting votes right now against other people that deserve it. What hitting ability are you talking about? This guy is arguably the softest Detroit prospect . He is fast, only thing comparable with Helm. He shouldnt be getting votes against guys like Lashoff who have had some pro success, Almquist who was destroying hockey back in the day or Callahan who went to a fricken World Junior championship and is the most likely fourth liner out of most of the prospects. Hes almost a guaranteed NHLer but you voted for Athanasiou.
Some days you guys will watch him play I guess and youll see what I'm talking about, until then just keep reading about speed and flashy hands

He shouldnt...
"He's going to be able to play just because of his skating ability and his speed," Red Wings director of scouting Joe McDonnell said in June. "Then it's just a matter of what he's going to be. Is he going to be a checker or is he going to be a top-two line guy? That's what's going to sort itself out the next five, six years.
"But in my mind, there's no question he's going to play because of his skating."
Here's the report on Hockey's Future
Athanasious has the speed and hands to be a dangerous NHL forward, but his all-around game isn't well developed at this point. He may not have the hockey sense to round into anything more than a utility player, but he does have the physical skills and skating ability to turn into an offensive threat at the pro level.
