Game #1

Esche to be in goal tonight, sounds like for the whole game.

Hackett will play Saturday in his hometown, London, Ont.

3 of the 4 young defenseman will play in each of the 9 games.

Firday Seidenberg will be the odd man out.

Joni Pitkanen makes his Flyers debut on his 20th birthday.

I doubt it will be televised, maybe locally in philly, but for us outsiders it's
doubtful. At the best we can probably see some highlights off of TSN or Sportsnet. I hope Joni has a big game on his b-day. That will give the coaches more incentive in throwing him in as #6 on D.
Anyone know who will be starting in net for the Debs?

Corey Schwab is supposed to be the man tonight from what I've read. Doesn't look like the game will even be broadcasted over NHL radio which really sucks.

Let's not kid ourselves. It's nice to score 6 goals against New Jersey, its nice to oblitterate them being that they are from New Jersey, but they played a bunch of 4th liners, 9th defensmen and backup goalies while the Flyers played what very well could be their opening night lineup.

Party pooper! Well the optomist can say "ah yes GKJ, this is true. But what also is true is that given the Devil's lineup, the Flyers should have lit it up against them, and they did just that."

Yes, we played a better line-up than the Devils did, but they did dress:

Niedermayer
White
Madden
Pandolfo
Elias
Gomez
Marshall
Rupp
Brown
Abelein

all will probably play for them opening night.

I was at the game:

Devils controlled the first 10 minutes or so, and were outshooting us 9-1, from the time we tied the game at 1-1 we dominated the reast of the game.

Lines

LeClair-Roenick-Amonte
Gagne-Handzus-Williams
Chouinard-Recchi-Somik -- looked real good
Brashear-Primeau-Kapanen

Defense pairings

Vandermeer-Desjardins
Ragnarsson-Pitkanen
Johnsson-Woywitka

Esche - played the first half
Hackett - will start tomorrow

Pitkanen looked very smooth, excellent skater.

Both Pitkanen & Woywitka are already good sized, but both could add another 10-15 lbs over the next few seasons.

Woywitka is no longer wearing #68, he now wears #3.

Ohhhhh NNNooooo!!!!!!
Not #3
That is the Philly whipping boy number.

Tom Bladon, Behn Wilson, and Doug Crossman. Booed unmercifully. It doesn't explain Chris Therrien though.

Abelein was getting top pair ice time while Elias and Gomez, listening to the radio, were almost not heard from, espically after the niedermayer goal.

I was at the game, the Devils rotated their defensive pairs, none played more than the others.

Elias & Gomez played plenty, they just didn't do anything at all.

Only Flyers scored to make it 2-1 it was domination, devils did nothing the rest of the way.

I'm not big on seeing Gomez and Elias on the same line unless its a PP. They didn't do much of anything together last season to warrant continuing the duo imo aside from one great game against the Islanders. Appreciate the game notes JFF. I'll be absolutely shocked if Tommy Albelin is a starter on opening night though. Hope to see Giroux and Hale or Brown on the last pairing.

Hmmmmmmm......maybe they're preparing to keep him around by giving him a "real" number........very interesting.

Call it the optomist in me, IM, but I think Mr. Woywitka is going to change all that. We'll see.......

Well I only got to listen to the game so that could have been a factor as to how much the other team was talked about.

We were missing Larionov, Stevenson, Gionta, Langenbrunner, Friesen, Stevens, Rafalski, Brodeur, and Brylin. Great game tho, seems like Philly's 3 #1 lines are doing good allready.
