Pittsburgh - Vancouver

Mason Raymond

Matt Cooke

Penguins get a young, quick player to finish retooling their third line (Raymond-Sutter-Jeffrey) while the Canucks improve in grit and toughness in the same guy who put up 20 goals last season.

Canucks say not to taking Cooke back, in any capacity.

You put Matt Cooke in the equation and it instantly becomes a full on hatred. Shawn Thornton and Milan Lucic lick their lips twice a year.

Matt Cooke needs another E. Kane-style one punch knockout
Yeah Cooke really toned down his game a lot last year. He very rarely did any of the ridiculousness he was known for in the past, and actually became a pretty strong two-way 3rd liner. He very rarely went the way of agitating pest.

Also by the way, as a Pens fan I personally wouldn't do this. Just don't like the risk involved.

I'm a little suprised a Pens fan made this. While Cooke is finally turning his game around and putting up good numbers, Raymond is struggling. Sure, Raymond's potential is a factor but right now if I'm Pittsburgh I'd ask for a pick or prospect coming back as well from Vancouver.

I don't think this really does much for either team.

I don't Raymond is an ideal third liner either. I'd definitely rather see them target someone more physical, or at least someone that's going to go into the trenches.

I also don't know why you're pencilling Jeffrey in on the other wing.

Hey guys, can anyone think of a former Canuck who wore out his welcome with his teammates, coaching and management for constantly stirring **** up and leaving other guys on the ice to answer for it and went on to get a lot worse rep with the players and officials somewhere else?

Ooo! Me! Me! I know! I know!

Thanks but no thanks. Really, that's okay.

I would do it. Even though I am confident that Raymond would excel on the Penguins he just doesn't work with Kesler. And Higgins and Hansen are better at their roles as 3rd line wingers. Just no room for him on this team.

Cooke-Lapierre-Whoever would be a great 4th line.

Raymond holds much more value to us than Cooke does, both stats and character-wise.

I'd rather have Cooke than Raymond right now.

Don't know much about Raymond. Would he be a clear upgrade over Cooke on L3? Does he have any top 6 potential?

Cooke's season last year was great. His pk abilities were top notch, scored close to 20 goals, and behaved himself. Haven't heard anything bad locker room wise from any of the beat writers in the past year. Despite his past antics, I love him on the Pens. Hoping he has another great season.

Lots of speed, but he has some of the same issues with decision making that Kennedy has. He also plays a pretty timid game and his style wouldn't really suit the bottom six. I don't think he's an ideal top sixer and I don't like him on a checking line either. I'd rather keep Cooke.

I wouldnt do this deal.

However as a big fan of both teams id say from a pens pov if they got Mayray playing him on the bottom 6 wouldnt be the worst but him with Crosby or Malkin would probably give you a 20 goal, 60 pt player that can pk & is one of the fastest players in the league

Pretty much this. Raymond has raw speed but it is useless because he always does his predictable "hug the boards then throw a weak shot at the net before I get hit." tactic. And although he actually has decent hands and his shifty dekes compliment his shot, he can never find his way into the open areas. I guess you can say that he has little to no hockey sense, just raw skill and speed. I firmly believe the only reason we kept Raymond is because though he has been dissapointing offensively, he is defensively sound. He is a fine fit for our third line where he will not be expected to produce as much.

This is practically verbatim what you'll hear about Tyler Kennedy on the Pens board.

The only difference is he doesn't avoid contact, so he ends up getting run over.
