He's been up and down...hit .293 in August but is off to a .160 start in September. He struggled initially when they got him but he's settled down...but like I said, not very good this month.
I think Sanchez has rounded into a decent starter for them...the last 4 starts have been solid after to two rotten starts prior.
Tigers haven't won a game on the road since AUGUST 15th. A truly miserable bunch. Ilitch's checkbook wont fix this problem and i dont see next season being any better. Looks like last year's ALCS appearance was a fluke.
Dombrowski is incredibly overrated
Tigers need to draft A LOT better.
Leyland needs to call up Billy Bean or Theo Epstein and ask what Sabremetrics is.
Getting back to tonight's debacle which is still going on...............i am expecting another solo shot HR which will be the only offense the Tigers generate. It's hilarious how great the pitching has been (apart from Verlander who has looked incredibly pedestrian) and the Tigers cant win.
Does anyone know where to find stats on how many hits the Tigers have with two outs and nobody on? They love generating garbage offense that doesnt amount into anything, but it inflates the stats of certain players.
My last gripe is how the Tigers somehow dont manage to get a single run when they have the bases loaded and no outs. It didnt happen tonight, but i would bet my house on the Tigers not getting a single run in that scenario.
Update
Tigers up 3-2 with Miggy and Jackson homers. I still stand by my earlier statements. Let's see if they can hold the lead. Gotta win the next three to have any hope of making the playoffs.

I've got a fantasy baseball league I'm probably going to win because I've been systematically adding and dropping whoever is pitching against the Tigers. I get like 12 Ks, a 0.750 WHIP, and 1 ER every night...
Well atleast the offense gave the bullpen a big enough lead so that their garbage pitching didnt cost them the game.
Verlander has to have another bounce back game. I dont feel at all comfortable about JV pitching tomorrow. He and Scherzer have switched places. One is consistent and one is in bipolar mode.
Tigers are currently 12-5 against the Sox this year. If they end up winning tomorrow and finish the season series at 13-5, and dont end up winning the division..............just wow, that's all i can say.
I feel for Max...almost had another good start pissed away by the bullpen. If his pitch count wasn't so high, he probably goes at least another inning. A side from the solo homers, Fister and Scherzer have been money. Verlander came through the Sunday before last...I can see him do it again.
Good game to be at. Amazing how many Sox fans bolted after Fielder's HR, they left in droves. And then another horde left right after they scored 4 runs in the 8th, as if they felt that inning was their only chance and there was no hope against Valverde
Jackson was just so good tonight, he's turned into a really good player. More valuable than Fielder, imo. Tigers hit .368 tonight, hopefully they can carry that into tomorrow night's game. If Leyland doesn't jack up the order that is.
Game rescheduled to Monday afternoon...sets up for Fister-Peavy to go Monday. Curious to see where the standings are after the weekend...3 in Cleveland for the Tigers, 3 in Minnesota for the Sox.

Given the way they've played against everyone not called White Sox, I'm expecting something like this:

ACTUALLY it's Fister vs Floyd... So... Floyd sees the English D and channels Cy Young to do the pitching for him... Ugh...

I can live with seeing Floyd again instead of another helping of Peavy.
Looking beyond Monday...that A's series is intriguing. It line ups for Scherzer and JV to pitch the first two games. I didn't realize the White Sox closed the season with the Rays...I hope they can hang in either the AL East or Wild Card race to make that series tough on Chicago. They also have to face the Angels.

The Rays just got swept in Baltimore and may be circling the drain. Wouldn't count on them to save the Tigers the last week of the year.
The bats cooled off as the game went on but the defense stepped up when JV got into some jams. Prince and Miggy both made huge plays with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd. That was a team win last night.
The Sox hold serve (as expected) so nothing gained last night but definitely nothing lost.
The Sox did switch to Quintana on Monday...Floyd moved to Tuesday to face KC.
Somewhat of an odd decision going with a lesser pitcher but I have to imagine this move was matchup-driven. The Tigers hit .248 against lefties and a ML-best .278 against righties. It forces Leyland to go away from his usual lineup and now has to use more of a righty lineup against the lefty Quintana.
As they mentioned on the broadcast, Ventura wasn't shy about using his bullpen with the expanded rosters. When it comes to the lefty/righty thing...it seems to mostly affect who starts in the corner outfield spots and sometimes Leyland may start Laird against a lefty. Also, Infante moves up to the #2 spot behind Jackson against lefties.
The one thing I don't want to see is Delmon playing left field on Monday...keep him as the DH. I'd stick with Dirks...hits a respectable .260 against lefties as does Boesch. Just based on the splits, you can stick with the typical lineup but with the switch of Infante hitting 2nd in the order. The Laird/Avila thing doesn't seem to matter against the numbers...both guys hit under .200 against lefties.
My order for Monday:
Jackson CF
Infante 2B
Cabrera 3B
Fielder 1B
Young DH
Boesch RF
Peralta SS
Dirks LF
Avila C
You keep a R/L/R/L/R/L pattern in the middle of the order to force Ventura to burn more relievers when he plays the matchup game.
