***only if bryzgalove stays in the KHL because of the lockout****
rumors of players not returning from the KHL after the lockout are very real, and mr. universe might be one of the guys who stays over in russia. that leaves the flyers in a very bad position in net. they dont have brobovski anymore and now they must rely on leighton. not the idea situation. if luo agrees to waive his NTC to go to philly that would give them a very reliable goaltender and assures them they wont fall in the standings because of goaltending.

my trade

To Van: D Erik Gustafsson, RW Matt Read, 2013 2nd + 3rd
To Phi: G Roberto Luongo

we get:
-a good defensive prospect to add to the likes of Connauton, Sauve and Corrado
-a good top 6 winger that can play either on the 2nd or 3rd line.
-and a couple of draft picks, for this upcoming draft which is suppose to be very deep.

they get:
-an allstar goalie to replace and improve on bryzgalov. there goaltending situation gets resolved for the time being
-they free up some cap space

is this trade fair? can we get more for lou or are we underpaying? CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED

Gustafsson is worth more to Philly than to us. Read is nice, but a 2nd+3rd isn't enough value to make me say yes.

Botchford said Couturier for Luongo isn't out of the question though.

Realistically I'd rather Simmonds or Voracek to be a centrepiece if a deal were to go down.

matt read is a decent player but he's more of a throw in than a center piece

well hes 26, scored 47pts in his first season playing on the 2nd/3rd line. i think he can be a 50+ point player playing with kesler and booth. how would you tweek this trade to make it more fair value wise?

Lu would definitely waive for Philly. He's a winner, he wants to win. He has the gold medal, he's tasted the scf, now all he wants is the cup. (Well, that and a poker tour championship lol). And Philly is a winning organization. If Lu goes there, he wins a cup no question. In fact, if Philly had Lu, I bet they already have a cup. Heck, they've had so much talent on the team that if they had even decent goaltending for the last few years they would have won a cup, so Luongo puts well above decent goaltending.

The KHL has already said they would not let NHL players under contract stay if the NHL got a deal done as there is now an agreement. This would be enforced by the IIHF, just like it was earlier with Yakopov.

Having said that, not sure who I would want from Philly, but would like a first as well.

Or maybe Philly would consider it a favour if the KHL took Bryz and they wouldn't put up a stink? Not sure if that's allowed though.

Haven't looked for a quote, I am sure it can be found, but there was an interview with the commissioner of the KHL on local radio here in Vancouver. He talked about how he looked at this as an oppurtunity, thought he should not just grow his league on the world stage, but show the top players, the lifestyle and league was still world class.

The Yakapov thing I am sure can be found somewhere, it was all over the place when it happened. That was with his Jr team Sarnia and the KHL. He had to sit out a few games while they figured it out.

Philly would be winning the lottery if Bryzgalov stayed in the KHL.

Why would we take on another overpaid goalie? Were going to solve our bryz problems by getting a 2nd one so we can have 2?

Pretty sure Botchford should have said Giroux don't you think?

Bryz can't play in the Olympics if he doesn't honor his NHL contract.

Gustafsson is a pretty use full player and Read is as well. no way they overpay for Luo with these 2 guys and a 2nd and 3rd even if they needed a goalie.

It was a hypothetical.

If Bryz stayed in KHL, would the Flyers do the deal?

you didnt read what i said did you. this deal is if bryzgalov stays in the KHL and philly doesnt have a goalie. so you wouldnt have bryzgalovs cap hit anymore and you get a cheaper goalie in luongo(0.333mill cheaper lol) that doesnt choke AS BAD as bryzgalov. (lou is still know to choke but he can also be lights out in the playoffs aswell, you cant say the same thing about bryzgalov)

But, IF it does happen, he's just seeing what the Flyers would be willing to pay? There's pretty much nothing to talk about, anything that brings some kind of conversation is a good thing around here.

If Vancouver buys Luongo out I'd be interested, or if the new CBA has a different 35+ rule. Otherwise, hell no.

Take out the 2nd and the 3rd.
D Erik Gustafsson, RW Matt Read is plenty for that contract.
It's not Luongo's ability thats hurts his trade value,It's his terrible contract..
You would be lucky to get this offer so i would think and hope that the Nucks would take this offer and high tail out of town.
