Also, about the Pudge pick, I thought I heard somewhere that Navi is 10-0 when Dendi gets Pudge? Or maybe that was puck. Either way, I don't think they lost when Dendi played Pudge during TI2. Always a better pick than NA IMO.
They gave them tide. Needed Dendi to play Rubick, it just didn't work out. Also, I believe most of those pudge picks were against lower tier teams (Never had time to watch too many games because of work though).

If you have some buddies playing, who are willing to teach you, read the odd guide and if you have the patience to play a hundred games vs bots...

You'll eventually love it.

If not, you'll be frustrated and leave.

....You noob.

Ehh if he chooses beginner at the start of the game when you first start playing, after about 5 or so match making games he'll be put in mmr where he belongs based on his skill level. Play 1 or 2 bot games before though.

If you actually do try and learn the game though you will love it after you've learned it.

Is it a pure skill game or does your character level up?

Its a skill game but more towards the higher level of play. Your hero levels up from 1-25. Some heros scale much better with levels while other heros dont scale much and start off extremely powerful.

If you're interested just read through this http://www.purgegamers.com/welcome-to-dota-you-suck

Too bad you didn't get the key when diretide first came out. It has been great for learning new heroes.

I really don't like playing support in pubs...
I buy wards, courier, leave farm to carries, only to see people fail on their carries and semi-carries time and time again.

(I do see games where my carries win and I get carried as a support, but the feeling of helplessness when you lose is awful, and that's why I prefer playing either solo mid, solo long lane or carries.
I'm fairly good at it too, I'd like to think)

And it reflects in my hero stats:

For example...
- CM...... 0-10 (0%)

Solo mid:
- Templar Assassin ..... 36-14 (72%)

This page gives you complete insight into stats of every player if you know his nick or if you can find a game of his.

I'm terrible at the game and hardly get any time to play it so I can't really improve. I believe the last time I played a normal game was over a month ago.

I guess that's why I like support. Generally I'm the weakest player on the team anyway so I can't be relied on to carry so I might as well ward and help CC/slow for the carry.

My site:

Yup, hardly any games

My dotabuff is ugly. 44% winrate. Mostly due to 90% of my 900 games played being played with a party/friends that are much much better than me therefore pairing us up with players much better then me. Hopefully the team matchmaking system will be reworked before offical release.

Edit: https://dotabuff.com/players/34705453

Some reason I just cannot win with heros like TA and other snowball early game heros. I do so well on them too just never get the W

Love DOTA 2. Just started playing a couple months ago, I find the game very bipolar. I either absolutely dominate, or get owned so badly. My best character is definitely Viper, with Skeleton King as a second. I really need to try new characters though, only tried about 10-15 of them.

Random every game. Best way to play the game, learn new heros, and just generally have fun overall. Although that probably contributes to more losses then wins too.

That, and avoid heroes that are harder to master:
- Invoker (10 spells, mixing it up, possibly hardest hero to play, took me forever to memorize everything)
- Chen, Visage, Meepo (intense micro)
- Pudge, Mirana, SF (skill shots that can either win lanes and games or completely lose them)
- Enigma.... "easy" to play, best jungler in the game, but has a game-breaking ultimate that is channeled - meaning you can either win the game or lose it for your team in that moment... maybe best left til you understand the game, positioning, heroes, etc. a bit more

I'd also avoid carry heroes that heavily rely on positioning and have no escape mechanisms (Drow Ranger, Sniper, etc.).

How do you know if/when to jungle?
And are there certain choke points on the map to put the light wards?

I can't really explain it in short (there are several excellent guides on it)...

Some pointers though...

There are basically two ways to jungle:
- creep camps with a natural jungler (Enigma, Lycan, Ursa, Furion, etc.)
- creep pulling with a support hero (you pull creeps onto your lane, effectively killing your lane creeps, denying xp and gold to the enemy, and getting xp and gold off of creeps in the woods)

Most common is the 2+1, 1, 1 set up:
- short (farming, safe) lane with a carry and a support and the +1 is a jungler in your woods, who can jump in for ganks if/when needed
- solo mid
- solo long lane who can handle ganks and low farms (Bounty Hunger, Dark Seer, Windrunner, Mirana, etc.)

You try and place wards on high ground if possible, gives more vision, isn't blocked off by trees etc.
Another use for wards is to place them on jungle camp spots, creeps don't spawn if there's vision over that area.

Just putting this out there, best play I've ever seen in any e-sport...
If you understand DOTA just a little bit, you'll realize how massive the play was and how it beat a seemingly "broken", unbeatable combo of Naga-Dark Seer and Tidehunter.

Had one of the funniest games. Playing weaver, lost rax at 25 minutes skeleton starts diving our fountain with rapier. We somehow kill him twice, I pick up the rapier and we win 14 minutes later.
