Why does it even matter? There are lots of free keys on ******, tons of them for $0.02 on Steam Market. Well, Chinese have a much harder time to get beta access, but they won't have to wait long.

I don't think there's an answer to that, tbh.
It's just Valve time.

It's free, all the goodies and optional and fluff-only, and the Beta Keys are ALL over the place, so can't really complain.

They absolutely own this version, winning DreamHack, SL6 and then destroying the Chinese/Asian scene in the recent G-1 Finals in Shanghai.

BUT... New version is coming this week or the next, and it brings MASSIVE changes to both heroes and the game itself (CM mode draft order is being changed) - and seeing as how Alliance understand this version better than anyone else, it might end up hurting them.

Find a champion you want to play and watch a how to on him. Then just go out there and get your beak wet. You'll eventually have to learn to play most of them so.

I would suggest randoming every game. Playing the same hero every game doesn't really teach you anything except that hero. If you have friends who are really good and will put up with playing with you ask if you can play with them. I learned playing with really good players so we qued up against really good players. It can be frustrating at first because you will get punished for even the smallest mistake you make but you will become a much better player.

It'll also make your winrate really ugly as you will lose most of your first 100 or so games lol.

Definitely should try and learn the basics of the game before you start doing random or draft.

There are numerous great rookie guides that help you get started.
IMO, give a quick read and play some BOT matches.

Don't get discouraged though, the game has a MASSIVE learning curve, it takes virtually years to master.

I also got this as a gift and am in over my head. I played two games vs. bots (one as Gyrocopter, another as Nyx Assassin) where I got crushed... But then I queued up a public solo game and played top lane Nyx Assassin and managed to go 4-1 with ~6 assists in a win. I just tried to play super conservative (resulting in my being only level 17 at the end - our highest was 21 I think) and avoid feeding. I was paired with a Bounty Hunter who seemed to know what he was doing which made it easier. So yeah, 1-0 in real games!

Of course.

Good to see Na'Vi back in form, hopefully they carry it over to finish DH and onto their China trip.

Should be Na'Vi, Alliance, Liquid and Virtus.Pro in the semis, if there are no surprises in the quarter finals.

Agreed.
Spectre making a comeback too.

I still want Valve/Icefrog to find some sort of nerf to Dark Seer... Everything comes and goes, but that mofo is still in every game, for 2 years now.

Also, I don't think the bottle crow nerf was enough, I want to see them contest runes, I want them to kill the courier refilling the bottle.

I'd be down to play with fellow Devils fans! I only have about 200 or so games under my belt but I can show you guys the ropes.

I've been playing Dota for a while now and for people who are starting out and are interested in learning about the game. I would recommend watching some commentaries on youtube. Luminousinverse provides excellent commentaries if you are trying to learn mechanics of the game, bballin773 is also good. As for playing, I wouldn't recommend randoming. When you first begin to play, the most important thing is learning what other heroes do and getting familiar with the game mechanics. Obviously randoming with a bunch of different heroes is a good way to learn about different heroes spells and such but IMO you're going to spend more time getting frustrated because there will be no consistency. Pick a hero and stick with heroes similar to that hero and as you familiarize yourself with other heroes and what they are capable of then you can start to transition into becoming a better all around player. If you try a carry one game and then play a support the next or a solo mid ganker, you're going to be spending time learning so many different roles at once, it's difficult to get a grasp on things.

Anyways that's just my two cents, Dota is a difficult game to get a grasp of but very exciting when you start to learn how everything comes together (until you get to the highest tier and every game becomes super tryhard with Batrider, Gyrocopter, Visage, Naix, Io, etc.)

The International is going to be great, rooting for Navi or Alliance. I think Alliance will take it. The Chinese teams are overrated IMO, but they always seem to do well at the International.
