You can watch the pilot. Legally. Right here.

Meh. I was unimpressed. I give it a half season before the plug is pulled unless it gets better.

Will watch it tomorrow. So what is that, the actual first episode? Why did they make it available online when it's not even scheduled to air until September 17th?

Pretty common to do these days. It preempts potential leaks and maybe they get social media buzz out of it. I suspect the latter is a big part of the strategy.

I've seen worse. I got a "Jericho" vibe out of that last scene, the rest was below average, except for the sword fight.

Watched it today, it wasn't bad but I expected more. I felt like I was watching the five minute trailer with some added filler.

The ending had a few small twists that was enough to keep me interested to watch the second episode.

Yep.

You said it better than I did. Good way to put it.

I enjoyed it. The premise is interesting and gives the show an overarching story to go with the individual episodes; we will see where it goes though. I did like

Spoil:
that they were giving bits and pieces of information (through flashbacks etc.) as the episode went on, rather than saving everything for the last 5 minutes or so as some of these shows have had a tendency to do. For instance, finding out in the first episode that the main antagonist (General Monroe) is the old buddy of one of the main protagonists who was with him when the blackout occured.

The actual feel/setting, namely a feudal/almost-medieval environment with swords and crossbows but also some modern elements such as firearms, is something that could be fun. The sword fight scene was pretty awesome.

I felt the same way too, and I'm not sure if that's what they were initially going for or not, but either way I could see them playing that up given the success and popularity of the Hunger Games. For instance, the initial trailer/hype seemed to be mostly based around the whole "the power went out/what caused it and can it be reversed?" mystery aspect, but the TV ads during the Olympics played up the characters, swordfighting, etc. a lot more. I think that was definitely an attempt to attract the type of audience that enjoyed the setting of Hunger Games.

Watched the pilot found it to be alright. Something to record, and watch whenever there's nothing else to watch or nothing better to do, when you got some free time.

I watched the pilot online but I wonder if there are some new additions on the TV version. I just don't like the 10pm time slot.

It's not terrible, but I really can't see it surviving past a first season.

The acting is poor, and the premise is weak. Society's devolved to this level in only 15 years?

Unimpressed, I'm going to try to watch Last Resort when that debuts but it's looking like The Following might be the only worthwhile serial drama debuting on Network TV this year, and that's starting Mid-Season.

Oy. I watched an episode of Breaking Bad before I started watching this. Bad idea. That's like going from Grey Goose to Mr. Boston's vodka. I quit after 30 minutes and decided I'll try to finish it tomorrow. That comically bad attempted molestation scene, followed by a "just in the nick" of time arrow from that guy from the stream, made me want to vomit. That was the cliche, cheesy cherry on the top of an already cheesy sundae.

Good: Cute girl. Blasting people with a .45. Elizabeth Mitchell. The nerdy Google guy.

Bad: Terrible acting. The father dying and giving a soliloquy in the process. "Be strong, daughter, and find my brother! Ah....bad PG-13 movie death...argh..." All the dialogue. The stereotypical bad guys. The utter lack of nuance. The, "I'm going with you on your epic journey, too!" statements from everyone, as if they had all just finished watching Fellowship of the Rings.

Edit: I finished the last half hour. It didn't help...

That "cute girl" is only 16. She'll look old by the time she reaches her 20s.

It wasn't a very good pilot, minus that sword fight scene and Esposito. Just had too many down points. I expected better. I'll probably watch it next week, but we'll have to see after that.

I was hoping someone would make a really epic thriller/suspense type of TV show like the BBC Sherlock which was really well executed and not too crazy. This unfortunately was not it.

That was an excruciatingly cringe-worthy experience.

Jeremiah was 10 times the show at 1/10th the budget.

The intro was so rushed, it was downright hilarious.

1. Here's the Dad!

2. "It's not safe!"

3. Dad's dead along with half the town. Emotional sequence rather difficult to watch without smiling because we've barely been introduced to the guy so there is no emotional connection whatsoever. Not to mention, the son aims a crossbow at like 8 guys, and for some reason, they end up shooting the guy that Esposito was looking for "FOR A VERY LONG TIME!". The son has a crossbow with one bolt.

4. Time to leave! (Notice everyone just wandering around the town as if nothing has happened during the leaving the town sequence)

-15 minutes has elapsed.

5. "Hi, I'm random photogenic teen with perfect skin and facial makeup hanging out by the waterfall with my bow." Well, I guess I'll see you later. I suspect we won't see him again.

6. Random bandit fight! And bow guy reappears! Yay! What a shocker!

7. Chicago. We're looking for my Dad's brother. Let's ask this guy! He IS my Dad's brother. There's a remarkable coincidence. First guy we asked.

-30 minutes has elapsed

8. A bunch of non-descript guys run in wearing the same thing. If that's not a recipe for massive amounts of action, I don't know what is.

9. Tortured bow guy (let's call him Taylor Lautner #2) saves Mischa Barton from one of the random henchmen (who are dressed in identical costumes in Star Trek red-shirt tradition).

10. Meanwhile, asthma boy is doing stuff.

It's the kind of script someone from middle school would write.

...AND THEN they're in Chicago, and there's like, this cool bar, and the bartender is the Dad's brother, and then there's these sword fights and stuff, and then they all leave....

Giancarlo Esposito is like a great athlete who's wasting his talent on a horrible team.

This post had me rolling because I thought many of the same things, particularly No. 7. How many perfect little coincidences along the way? And the father dying scene was comedic gold. Did we need an epic death and speech from a guy we knew for approximately one minute?

Compare Adriana getting whacked in the Sopranos (which we didn't even see) to this, which we saw in all its glory and with all its sappy dialogue and music. Which had more impact? Gee. You don't have to overdo it, you just have to make us care first.

The networks always make the mistake of casting for looks.

It's the kiss of death every time.
