Look, they did something reasonable. Let's throw them a party for not trying to out think the room on this one thing they did all ****ing weekend. I'd like smack this group in the face with a red hot shovel branded "Conventional ****ing Wisdom".
Don't take a slow of foot stick figure with a broken back that's played a dozen games since middle school with your first round pick.
Don't take your head European scout's kid with your very next pick.
Just watched the interview he did with Dave Vest. Love the attitude. Said he thought he would go late first round. Said he was going to try and make the Coyotes this year. Right on, young buck. He might just challenge Bizz on the first shift of training camp.
I would have been happy to take this guy at 20th overall actually. The reports on him make him sound like Milan Lucic. He's my favorite pick of the draft as of now, I'm stoked to have him.
Check out some of these highlights:
27 goals and 27 assists in your first year in the Juniors is pretty impressive.
I saw him described somewhere as the anti-Jenner. Whereas Boone Jenner is all hustle, heart, and grit with limited skills, Lessio's hands, speed, etc. are all excellent but his effort and attitude leave a lot to be desired.
He's the only guy the Coyotes drafted this weekend with legit scoring upside, but he'll need to do some maturing if he ever wants to make an impact.

Hmm glad you posted that. This guy has talent.

He’s got great skill, great hands and great speed, is very dangerous one-on-one, has a pro calibre shot, very good in the corners, has excellent vision and hockey sense, and makes his teammates better. Whomever does land the 17-year-old phenom is definitely going to be a much improved hockey team, and right now, the Wolverines and Generals are both keeping their fingers crossed that it is them.

. Lessio is noticeably big and strong, even though his size is only slightly above average. He's a decent skater, with very good hands and a quick, accurate shot. He scores most of his goals by hanging out on the outside of the net and picking up garbage, and rebounds, but he has the ability to make some very attractive looking plays.
He's usually one of the first forwards back in his own zone, and though at times his positioning isn't at a high level, his effort and commitment to defence is as good as anyone's in the league.
What separates Lessio from other players at this age is an astonishing hockey IQ. He rarely makes mistakes, learns on a nightly basis, and constantly studies the ice, judging the play, predicting what may happen. Though Lessio's skill level is high, it's not at the level of some of the other well known names at the top of this year's draft class, but his personality, size and two-way ability should be enough to propel him into the first round, and likely ahead of where he's slated to go now.
Sounds like he stammers or has some sort of speech impediment that he has been working on. Just an interesting side note. Maybe provides him with that chip on his shoulder.

This is why I think if his offense doesn't develop at the NHL level, he could become a very useful utility player along the lines of a Jannik Hansen with high upside. Very nice pick in my opinion.
