I think Chicago might have to add another player for L.A. to make this deal.

This is actually pretty reasonable in terms of value.

I'd pull the trigger

That's probably around the cost of a good, proven vet, as a rental but the prospect might have to be a little better. If Bernier works out, it would be a steal but you never know!

People forget that the only reason Bernier isn't a starting goalie in the NHL is because Jonathan Quick finally put his whole game together and he's a BEAST. People in the organization new he could be good, just not this good.

I would love to see Bernier come to Chicago.
Not sure what it would take but certainly not Sharpie.
I would be willing to trade McNeil and a lower roster player like Bickell. LA can have Frolik if they like too!
Emery could go the other way if LA wants a veteran back up.
Crawford and Bernier sharing duties through the season would be just fine.

Worth noting that at this time in 2011 the 2012 draft was supposed to be excellent as well.

Kings don't have a '13 1st round pick, so i'd do it

I like the OPs proposal. I think it helps both teams. LA gets value for a goaltender they aren't going to be using. Chicago gets an upgrade at goaltender and gives up potential future that they really don't need, either. It's a good solid deal.

Well done.

A 1st + mid tier prospect (Beach , Pirri) is more fair value

I think this deal is extremely fair, I just don't think the Kings will send a possible goaltending answer to the Blackhawks whenever they could probably get a similar package from an Eastern conference team like Toronto or New Jersey. Even if it means taking a slightly lesser prospect from that Eastern conference team.

Pirri is going to get every opportunity to make 2LC this year so I highly doubt they would deal him as the Hawks need every center they have.
Beach still needs his shot with the big club too and after being an 11th overall pick I would also doubt the management gives up on him yet as he brings that coveted combination of toughness and scoring.
Possibley Smith or Morin but again I would hate to see either one of those two go.
Tough decision ..

Now if you want to talk about sharpe im sure the kings would be interested in adding a piece or two to bernier to get him .
Is that extra piece Dustin Brown?

I have zero interest in trading a 1st round puick + for Bernier.

He has shown he can be capable, but we already have a capable net minder in Crawford who had a sophmore slump last year. Can't argue Bernier is a definitely an upgrade, so not willing to take the gamble.

1st Kings are not trading an asset to a conference rival they likely have to go through in the playoffs. As others have said, when he gets moved, it will be to the East.

2nd I doubt Pirri gets much of a look in Chicago. My understanding is Q is not a fan of him.

It's a little much to give up IMO, but in the interest of moving forward with the goaltending position and bringing in someone with good upside, I'd do it. There are definitely some other guys I would rather acquire than Bernier but at the same time, he's quite talented and has some experience. It would be worth the gamble.

Sure, then we can trade you Frolik, Pirri and Saad for Richards and a 2nd.

OP proposal value to Kings is fair. Only problem is LA isn't looking to trade him right now. I the lockout persists to the point that Quick fully recovers from his surgery, then Bernier may be available.

The deal looks fair to me, I would probably do it from an LA perspective and promote Jones to backup Quick, if he is shaky then trade for a cheap backup and send him back to the minors.

Huh? He has a grand total of 48 NHL games over 4 seasons with mediocre stats.

Deal looks fair, but unlikely because of both teams being in the same conference. That being said, I like the OP's username hah.

...because Quick has given him zero reason to take hold of the reigns. Quick earned the job and never let go. And Bernier, while capable in the backup role, is unable to develop a rhythm of his own with limited starts.

Are we moving too fast for you?

There's rarely ever a goaltender that's both available for trade and not a gamble. Goaltenders get traded because they're not the #1 on their current teams; they're either backups or part of a tandem. In either case, they're not the #1 for a reason. The closest thing to an exception this offseason is Luongo, who's a huge gamble for other reasons.

There's always huge uncertainty in this position, but try to use that as an excuse to cheap out and "minmax" on this position, and you get the Flyers of the past decade or the Blues of shortly before that.

Bishop only got a 2nd and Lindback did't even get a 1st round pick. I don't think Bernier will get close to that much.
