#10 Center in the NHL for the 12/13 season is?

Going into the 2012-2013 season, lets make a HFBoards list of the top 30 centers in the NHL. Try not to take potential or the future into consideration. You can however, take into consideration the possible improvement/regressing players might've done this off-season if you're sure about it.

Also, name your player you want to add for the next poll.

#1 - Sidney Crosby His concussion problems seems to be in the past. Still the best center (and player) in the world.
#2 - Evgeni Malkin Clear number 2. His last season was, again, proof of how dominating he can be offensively.
#3 - Steven Stamkos The best goal scorer in the game right now. Had astonishing 60 goals last season.
#4 - Claude Giroux Is the heart and soul of the Flyers offense. Had a serious breakout year last season.
#5 - Pavel Datsyuk At the age of 34 he is still the best 2-way center in the game.
#6 - Henrik Sedin One of the best playmakers. Works his magic with his twin brother Daniel but has also proved that he can play without him.
#7 - John Tavares Carries one of the NHL's worst teams on his back but does it with style. Has risen to elite level offensively.
#8 - Jonathan Toews Excellent 2-way center and solid captain for the Hawks. Had his best season offensively until he got injured.
#9 - Anze Kopitar Best forward on the most recent Stanley Cup champion team. Flew under the radar before, not anymore.

Quick question for all you HFboard experts: How is Jason Spezza, who just finished 4th OVERALL in scoring and 6th OVERALL in hart votes, not considered a top ten CENTRE going in to next season?

Because Backstrom is the better player. Doesn't take an expert to just look at the stats like you.

Not everyone gets to have Ovechkin riding shotgun.

Oh well.

Not sure how Jason Spezza is about to fall out of the top 10 centres rankings after finishing 4th in scoring, but anyways...

That's cute, although completely unoriginal and expected. The "you only look at the stats" insult. Which always comes up, despite the fact that none of us knows how much hockey others watch. "Because Backstrom is the better player." Well done, point proven. How do I change my vote?

Yeah I was going to laugh at that. Doesn't take an expert, just watch, then you'll see, it's easy!!!

Obviously anecdotal evidence is far superior to statistical evidence.

And of course, I am sure this person wouldn't make this argument unless they watched at least 50% of Spezza's games last year. After all, that would be the only way to know from simply watching who the better player is. I mean, unless Backstrom is so much better than Spezza that it would be akin to a debate over who is better between him and Chris Kelly.

(And for the record, I am not even saying it's wrong to say Backstrom is better, it's just obnoxious to do it while saying "it's obvious, even to non-experts, stats be damned")

I never mentioned "watch them" or anything along the lines of that, so not sure where you're getting that from.

Backstrom was on a PPG pace this year before getting headshotted mid-way through the season. Ok... sure, no big deal... But this was during an absolutely brutal offensive season... one that saw Ovechkin have an absolutely awful season according to many of these "HFBoards Experts" as you like to call them, and saw Jason ****ing Chimera become the teams 3rd best goal scorer... And yet, it seems that Backstrom just benefits from Ovechkin's great play... right?

Oh let's not forget to mention the Senators, had the 4th highest GPG this season (compare that to Jason Chimera being the Caps 3rd best goal scorer... yeah, enough said.) Oh... wait... was that all because of Jason Spezza? OH OKAY... so that means Erik Karlsson didn't deserve the Norris right? Choose wisely Sens fans...

And then we have the part where Backstrom is elite defensively, playing on the first penalty kill unit for years now...

Oh and one last thing, to all the people saying Backstrom just "leeches" off of Ovechkin... in his first two years playing on North American ice, (there was no AHL and CHL time playing the style like Jason Spezza, among others had) he had 69 and 88 point seasons... while playing with players like Eric Fehr, Tomas Fleischmann, Brooks Laich, Victor Kozlov, Alexander Semin... and not Alexander Ovechkin.

I take Backstrom without thinking twice... easily.

I noticed you avoided mentioning Colin Greening and Milan Michalek in your post.

Nicely done!
