I'm glad to see Hamill back in the octagon. His losses are only against absolute top of the heap fighters (Franklin, Rampage, Bisping, Gustafsson). He has some very impressive wins too (Munoz, Boetch, Ortiz).

I think the biggest thing about Hamill being back is it introduces another reasonably viable storyline for Jones as a title challenger. There aren't many left at LHW. If Hamill can string some wins together while Jones fights Belfort/Henderson/Gustafsson (and Sonnen if he can win some fights), it will give Jones a chance to avenge his "loss".
Yeah this is a huge step up in quality of opposition. Hollett is opportunistic and if Hamill presents that one small window - then Hollett will need to capitalize... that's his best (only) chance. If Hamill is in trouble (either with strikes or via submission) and is able to recoup then I would say chances are that Hamill frustrates him and wins the decision.

Hamill's not going on any sort of run, the guy is completely outclassed at the highest level.

Main Card (PPV)
Jon Jones (c) vs Vitor Belfort
Joseph Benavidez vs Demetrious Johnson
Michael Bisping vs Brian Stann
Matt Hamill vs Roger Hollett
Cub Swanson vs Charles Oliveira

Preliminary Card (FX)
Igor Pokrajac vs Vinny Magalh„es
TJ Grant vs Evan Dunham
Sean Pierson vs Lance Benoist
Jimy Hettes vs Marcus Brimage

Preliminary Card (Facebook)
Seth Baczynski vs Simeon Thoresen
Mitch Gagnon vs Walel Watson
Kyle Noke vs Charlie Brenneman

Took a couple guys (Stann, Pierson) that I'm not real confident picking but I really want them to win so picked them anyhow.

Hollett's only shot is too KO Hamill. Hamill could be rusty and was never very good on his feet in the first place so I'd give Hollett a higher punchers chance than usual.

I like Hamill, glad to see him come back for another fight, hope he wins.

I think you guys are underestimating Hamill a little. The guy beat Boetch, Munoz, Ortiz and Jardine. I wouldn't call that "outclassed at the highest level" by any stretch (except against Jones, but EVERYONE is). His record is 9-4 in the UFC, and he's fought tougher competition than a lot of other LHW regulars.

I'm not saying he deserves a title shot based on where he stands right now. I'm just saying that once Jones clears out Belfort/Henderson/Gustafsson (which I assume he will), Hamill could give the UFC an option.

Boetsch and Munoz are 185ers now. Ortiz is retired. Jardine got cut by the UFC. Franklin, Mauler, and Jon Jones absolutely destroyed him and Rampage beat him handily as well. He is not in that top tier of guys, and even if he could pull off an upset over a top 5-10 guy he's not going to pull off two or three upsets to get to a title shot. His striking is very limited, his wrestling is good but not on the top level, and he has no BJJ game to speak of.

I have all of the respect in the world for Hamill for what he's done in his life, but he's never sniffing a UFC title shot. The only way that Jones fight ever happens is if Jones loses and they need an easy bounce-back fight for Jones with some sort of story pre-attached to it.

I would love an upset and for Belfort to knock Jones down a peg. I honestly think an early loss would be the best for Jones career. Example I think of is GSP.

Can you imagine how mindnumblingly frustrating a cautious Jones would be to watch? Circle and jab! Circle and jab! Great round Mr. Jones!

Agreed. I think GSP's loss killed almost all of the excitement in his fights.

I disagree, his first Koschek fight wasn't great right after the loss, but after that he finished both Hughes and Serra in devastating fasion, and handed Fitch arguably the worst 5 round beating I'v ever seen a guy survive. Mysteriously after that it seems his killer instinct disappeared, but I think it was too long after his loss to blame his conservativeness on that. It's a shame really, newer UFC fans missed out on the old destroyer GSP and are stuck with this jabbing takedown machine we see today. I'm hoping that this long layoff has somehow changed his mindset a bit, but it could easily just make him even more conservative.

He had about 5 consecutive entertaining fights after his loss.

I don't know that Jones could be nearly as effective as GSP if he lost his confidence with a loss.. since a lot of the crazy **** he does is what makes him so good. But I'd love to see it.

I don't think it was the loss that killed the exciting GSP, it was the money that came his way. He needed the belt to keep the PPV buys and sponsors rolling in, so the best way to provide financial security to himself was to go to a safer style where the probability of him winning was very high.

Anyone know what time these events usually end?

Going down with some friends, but need to catch the 1:27 bus.

With the two title fights on this card it could be close. Most PPV's usually end around 9:30PT/12:30ET, but if both title fights go into the championship rounds it could push the end time past 1AM. That said, I doubt the Belfort/Jones fight goes past round 2 so you should be fine.
