Disagree that Sekera is available. As a defensive dman with the mobility and carrying abilities of an offensive dman (if not the point production), he's too useful a glue guy. Other than him and Myers, Sabres dmen tend to be offense-only or defense-only. (I'll have to see more than 15 games of Sulzer before I put him in this category.) Plus, he has a great contract on a team that could run into cap trouble pending the new CBA.

Leopold is available, though. A good #4 offensive d who can pot 10 goals and isn't horrible defensively. Would be useful for any team with a bottom 10 PP. Veteran. Has been somewhat injury-prone in the past, but has played the best hockey of his career over the past four seasons where he's played at least 70 games every season.

Sabres don't need to get rid of Leopold unless the worst case scenario for the cap comes true ($58 million with no amnesty buyout or "drop Leino off in a forest in Finland" option), so we're not interested in 2nds or 3rds. We're looking for a dependable bottom six center. Leopold is well worth that by himself, but given that his contract expires in a year, we're okay with adding a little bit.

Robyn Regehr would be moveable IMO.
Regehr is a veteran on a blueline that has few (especially if Leopold is moved). Also, he loved Calgary and had no intention of leaving until Sabres management coaxed and cajoled him to waive his NMC to come here. Sending him away after one year would be bad form and would sour Buffalo as a destination for many players.

If one of Anaheim's young d-men (Vatanen, Lindholm, Clark) plays their way onto the roster, the Ducks could move Toni Lydman. Nate Guenin is the only guy I see filling a seventh d-man role. Lydman is a very steady defensive presence despite not being overly physical. He relies on positioning and smarts to break up rushes and is an underrated puck-mover. Just wouldn't fit in Anaheim anymore if the youngsters perform.

Fowler-Beauchemin
Allen-Sbisa
Souray- Lydman/Vatanen/Lindholm/Clark
Guenin

Buffalo has Leopold sort of available, in that it would probably be a three team trade where the Sabres move Leo for a forward then flip a pick for a better defensive player a-la Tallinder/Robidas/Lydman.

What would COL want from EDM for O'Bryne

What happen to Ballard he was a good dman, since he went to VAN his value has just dropped.

I disagree after Smid you don't have a legit top 4 shut down dman, that is what EDM is lacking.

He doesn't really fit into their system and he is always in AV's doghouse

Montreal has 9 NHL ready Dman, We're looking to move Kaberle, Diaz and Weber. For a big one.

To think we had O'byrne and we gave him for a 3rd line Prospect...

Injuries and Alain Vigneault happened to Ballard. Also he was outperformed by Edler and Hamhuis on the left side and Bieksa, Ehrhoff, and Salo on the right as he has taken a lot of time to adapt to his off side. We may still see him come back to the right side this upcoming season much to the dismay of many fans. Would like to see some more of what he is capable of this season.

His last season in Florida was garbage too. He might've bounced back under a different coach/in a different system, but his problems had started before the trade.

I'd say Larsson, Merrill, Gelinas and possibly Salvador are the only people I consider truly untouchable at this point.
Harri Pesonen is a left winger

Hordichuk was mouthing off about how much he was going to abuse the Sedins. Gets on the ice for his first shift and makes a run at Ballard. TOI 0:05. Knee injury.

This, but looks like more sellers than buyers for D men at the moment. That explains why the Sabres haven't made a move yet.

He waived his no move to come to Buffalo... but I'm not sure on how that works. Does the no move go back into place?

Either way, I'm pretty sure he isn't going anywhere. He has family concerns and doesn't like moving and all of that. I'd assume he'll be a Sabres player until retirement rather than move around a ton at the end of his career.

I'd be interested in Leopold from a Vancouver perspective.

What would the asking price be?

Not interested in the Leafs scraps

Whitney will not be traded until he can show he has recovered from his injuries. If he has recovered his value would increase and would be a benefit for the Oilers.

The Oilers are very high on Paajarvi, especially after his performance in the AHL play-offs last season. If he is traded, it will be in a package for a top pair D and not for a soft D like Sekera.
PUAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAhAA. What else would you include to get a top pair D to Paajarvi, Yakupov? Please. Sekera would instantly become your best defenseman.
