At least a positive is that if the lockout goes past november, the NHL loses the NBC contract....

And Piere McGuire.

Yea not so much in the NHL.

It doesn't really matter what the players think is "fair". 57% might be "fair" but ultimately the owners will get what they want. If the players think that by missing time they will squeeze a deal in the mid-high 50s out of the owners they are delusional.

There's a time to fight for your principles, and a time to live in the real world and take the best deal you can get. Holding out for 50-53% is reasonable. But they are never gonna get more than that and they need to get a grip.

(All that said I understand that they are holding to this for NEGOTIATING purposes. However if they miss games with a deal in the low 50s on the table, the players are to blame.)
Someone who gets it. Thank you for posting this.

I don't "side" with the owners or the PA. The players are in no position to demand a 57% share of the revenue when at least 1/3 of the teams in the league are bleeding money. Who put those teams in the not so favorable markets to begin with though? That's on Bettman and his cronies.

If another prolonged lockout happens, the media and fans are going to look for some sort of scapegoat. I just pray it's Bettman. 3 lockouts in 15 years. Think about it. That's missed games from the season every 5 years. Inexcusable. He's gotta go. Has any other sports league missed this much time due to labor disputes?

Scratch that, I read it wrong. But at least there is still no pierre. lol.

They would still be paid for the season by NBC, even if it doesnt go through. BUT NBC would get a free one at the end of the contract.

The nba and nbc both resumed play after lockout right before their first games were to be televised nationally.

Rangers bruins on nbc Friday November 23rd would be the first nationally televised game. So lets hope it works out the same.

Agreed. If nothing else it is just a blatant sign of how poorly managed the entire business is.

But then again if he wins another round for the owners, where is the incentive to fire him? Sad.

The Rangers will win the draft lottery, which allows the Jackets to pick 1st overall.

They are not going to lose a whole season again. Someone will cave and it will probably be the players.

And therein lies the thing that upsets me. All we can do as fans is boo him when he makes his yearly public appearance to present the Stanley Cup, and you know, egg the NHL offices if we want to.

I doubt it. None of the sides have respect for each other. Wouldn't even pick up phone calls on deadline day. A joke.

Today's the breaking point for you? The day it expires? What about the entire past year? That didn't concern you at all? They have talked more this time around. They will continue to talk in the coming days. They may lose games but not an entire year. The players wont do that again. Not every player is going to play overseas. You think Dan Girardi wants to uproot his wife and young kid to europe for what could be a year? There's more players like him. You think some of these players want to play in weaker leagues so that they are a step behind or maybe just worse for the rest of their careers? Bettman and the owners know this. Thornton and Nash were much younger when thet went to sweden last time around. The players will be more welcoming to the nhl's proposal when they don't get their paychecks.

Rangers site as well as many other teams sites and NHL.com have little to no mentions of current players on the home page.

This is painfully true. Even articles on NHL.com that are even slightly contentious have the comments disabled. He's like Hitler in 1945. Quick photo op, talk about how great ***** is, then retire back to the bunker where you can shut out reality.
