Was the trade for John Scott at the deadline a good one?

Acquired for a 5th round pick, played 6 games on the 4th line and served as depth at wing and and defence if necessary during the playoffs. If Rupp got hurt he could have filled in. Also had that insane breakaway in the Ottawa game and fought Cam Janssen in a game against the Devils. The Blackhawks selected D Travis Brown from Moose Jaw in the WHL, yet another 6'1 defenceman who may or may not make it to the NHL, but won't in the next few years for sure and doesn't have the tools to develop as a top-4 guy. I don't Sather really gave up anything for increased toughness depth and could maybe do the same thing for Jody Shelley this season at the deadline.

I didn't mind it.

You never know what you'll face in the playoffs.

The Bruins are a team that could start to goon it up a bit. I think we could've handled them fine without Scott if we met in the playoffs, but he adds some insurance.

5th round pick hopes to have a long career like John Scott.

Although, I'd prefer the pick to be traded for say Samuel Pahlsson instead.

Except Pahlsson was traded for a prospect and 2 4th rounders. Asking price was much higher for him.

I would've upgraded to that price for Pahlsson as opposed to getting Scott.

Not really. Wasted a pick on a worthless rental.

Unless that 5th rounder turns out to be something special, it was pretty much a wash. No real effect on anything.

God ******* dammit. Now that 5th rounder is definitely going to be something special. Didn't mind John Scott. He was brought in for depth, fill in for Rupper and also as someone who plays a two way game and can "play as both D or as a forward"

i won't say it was a good move, but i definitely understand what sather was doing.

we have had good luck in the past with late round picks, but the odds of a 5th rounder working out aren't reliable-- he was reliably intimidating to have on our roster(albeit not reliable on the ice) whether we played him or not. he kept teams intimidated for the few games he was in. he was available during the stretch if we ended up locking 1st in the league and wanted to protect our core. he was also there to psych ottawa out a little bit after the carkner incident during pregame warm ups.

we didn't need him during the stretch (which is honestly why i feel we picked him up). we didn't need him to replace rupper and chose not to replace bickel with him, but having him on the team was a little reinsurance in a worst case scenario and the cost was acceptable.

This brief moment I had during the season was worth a 5th rounder...

In 0.5 seconds...

OH **** BREAKAWAY!!!!

It's John Scott

Seemed like a pick given away to me, but I really didn't care one way or the other. Scott didn't really distinguish himself in anything and since I also didn't expect him to, the whole thing was just a wash to me. One more press release for someone to write in the Rangers PR department.

Even it that 5th rounder turns into a good player--it doesn't mean we would have picked the same guy. Really don't know how you can qualify this.

In terms of the Rangers feeling a need for a goon insurance policy going down the stretch--and a 5th rounder in a mediocre draft. Pretty much he was a useless player and not even a good replacement for Rupp because he can hardly skate. Truthfully though most 5th rounders aren't going to have any real impact.

It wasn't the best move. The move the Rangers should've made was getting Rolston off waivers so Bickel and Emminger didn't have to play 4th line wing.

Scott was supposed to intimidate and play physical, but he failed pretty bad at that.

A waste of pick when it comes down to it.

another useless player in a long line of useless players that weve brought in to be the "tough guy"

Orr, Brashear, Boogaard, Rupp (less so), Scott, etc.

Rupp should be better this year..he can play hockey..but hes not a real mega heavyweight either.

Terrible trade. Prototypical goon that couldn't actually play hockey. Possibly the most useless deadline acquisition for the rangers post lockout.

Terrible trade. No way to Jody Shelley. He's not even worth a conditional 7th.

He was obviously worth it. That's why he sat out 75% of the regular season games and could have been lying on the beach for the playoffs.

I agree, Rolston would have given us some much needed depth on 3rd/4th line.

Waste of a pick for sure, not sure why Sather feels the need to get goons............on the same note I don't mind the Rupp and Asham signings. I think they will fine 4th liners, hoping Rupp was blah last yr because of his knee injury

on a totally separate note if there is a lockout Sauer will be likely healthy by the time th yr starts, my thoughts anyway
