I wonder if he decided that before or after Suter signed with the Wild.

We obviously don't know all the details, but it sounds like the Jets actually made a better offer to Mason than the Preds. I can't see him getting more time in net being behind Rinne than Pavelec.

In those "get to know your Jets" videos they would play on the (not so) JumboTron during TV time outs he said his favorite place to play was Nashville. So I wasn't surprise he went there i guess. .

Re-reading my op, I realize I didn't word it properly. I didn't mean he wants to come back to the jets now. what I meant was he had every intention of being back but when things got a little messy with pavs contract and the Jets put off talking with him to just before the deadline he thought it over and decided to test the waters. In the end, he went with the team he felt had the better chance of going deep sooner...but he said he loved being here and had planned on being back and I totally believe him. Anyway, I just think he's a character guy and I was sad to see him go. But que sera serra...

He was getting more money here
But left for more playing time.... When rinne plays 70 games a year?
When he could have got more games here for sure

Something seems goofy to me

He decided to leave and is no longer a part of this team.

Get ready to get heckled at the Phone Booth, Mason.

Al Montoya should be able to fill back-up position nicely. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in a few games this season.

Maaayyy sonnn
Maaayyy sonnn

Yes,Winnipegers love goalies with two syllable names.

And if he's in net for a critical game, I'd expect a "Steve is better" chant to start.

Yeah that'll probably happen. lol As long as no one literally has taken this personal, otherwise you need to reorganize your priorities. lol

I don't really think it's worth heckling him for that. If he starts here I'm sure he'll get the same treatment any opposing goalie gets.

Why bother heckling him as a backup goalie? I agree with giving him the same treatment as all the other goalies that come into the MTS Centre. I don't think we should be so petty as to suggest we heckle someone just because they left the Jets, unless they were disingenuous with their motives, a'la Parise.

He's in the tail end of his career. The Jets are a team struggling to make the playoffs, the Preds are a team seen to be competing to win the Stanley Cup.

I didn't think he made so much money in his career that he'd focus on trying to win a Cup rather than being paid, but his decision certainly isn't goofy. It's also a place he has played before, so he's familiar with the team and the city.

Then come out and say you want to play on a winning team.
No one would be (or at least should be) mad about that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "petty". My comment was referring to him being heckled WHEN IN NET, not sitting on the bench. I don't think there is anything "petty" about that.

Because it is funny in an ironic way, and Jets fans like to have fun at games, sometimes in an ironic way. I am sure Chris Mason would appreciate the comedy of it, and have a good laugh about it.

I listened to part of the interview and am pretty sure he made reference to that (winning team/chance to win the cup). He also said something to the effect of 'looking back on his career, he wanted to say he took a chance', but that's when I stopped listening.

Mason always seemed to be a stand up guy. He's one player who on a few occassions took the time to talk to the illegal curve show about the potential of Atlanta relocating here before it was official or anything. Was very nice in those interviews. Seems like a good guy. Can't blame him for wanting to win. Personally felt he was under utilized last season.

I like Mason, always have.

I will still happily chant "MAAAAYYYYYYY-SONNNNNN" if he plays here again in predator yellow rather than Jet-Blue.

I agree he seems like a really stand up guy. And apparently quite vocal in the lockerroom.

But I have to disagree he was under-utilized. His numbers weren't great, and those were in some fairly sheltered games. Hopefully Montoya is an improvement as backup.
