Well if true, thanks Melnyk for hanging in there seeing as we're 10m above the floor (next year once the cap goes up, our current spending will be the floor).

We are top 10 in attendance, top 10 in tv viewership, and are right in the middle where ticket prices are concerned.

The Sens aren't going anywhere.

If I've learned anything through pro sports, it's that your team is never safe regardless of history, market, fan support, etc. The Seattle Supersonics up and moved in a New York minute to butt **** Oklahoma just because of a handful of people wanted it to.

Now I don't think Ottawa is of any danger of that, but I do either see an ownership change and / or significant new investors in the teams future.

Back in the day, when the dollar was weak, attendance was okay, and the debt load was high, it was made sense that the team was in trouble.

Eug paid next too nothing for the stadium. The dollar has been strong the last 5 years. Attendance has been fantastic since he bought the team. They've had a ton of success. If we're in trouble now, we'll always be in trouble.

We need Alex Trebek to buy the team. He's a pretty smart guy.

I don't believe that Travis Yost makes stuff up. His source might but Yost is credible. I find this quite believable. The league believes in Ottawa as a market but thinks we have a crappy owner. Sounds about right to me.

This "source" sounds very amateurish with his/her language in this supposed email communication, so I am not so sure about how accurate it is. However, this article did cover some important points that we can watch for in the coming months regarding the ownership situation. I think we can all agree Melnyk is in not in as good financial situation he once was, and he is trying to dig himself out of this hole, hence the new moves: the CTC naming right deal, strong push for a casino, tight budget on the team, Alfie contract negotiation, etc), so we will have to wait and see what happens in the coming months.

I don't think he is panicking, and nor should we (not yet any way). People should relax, this team is not being relocated, if EM can't do it, there are others can, it is a good hockey market; heck, even Phoenix got new ownership!!

So, what you're telling me is that...

A hockey blog that is notorious for being unreliable and creates articles and rumors to pander to their audience and get hits on their blog, wrote an article that is controversial, relates to what is currently on-going with a Canadian NHL team and is getting a lot of attention because of it even though the evidence presented is incredibly questionable.

Wow. That's pretty odd.

If there's even a whiff of possibility about the Senators moving, the Toronto media will butter themselves up for an orgy of ignorance, tired one-liners, and grandstanding attacks on every facet of this market and team.

And as long as they say "allegedly," they will keep going.

May you provide some Travis Yost related examples?

I never said anyone was moving, but if they have refinaced the team in 2006 and again in 2012, everything going on right now makes total sense. The interest on the debt load is getting too high as the debt was stacked on.

Up till now, I thought all the "EM is broke" talk was BS.

The last thing the city of this team needs is another dramatic plea for a new owner and bailout.
