HFBoards Top 30 Centers #14

Going into the 2012-2013 season, lets make a HFBoards list of the top 30 centers in the NHL. Try not to take potential or the future into consideration. You can however, take into consideration the possible improvement/regressing players might've done this off-season if you're sure about it.

Also, name your player you want to add for the next poll.

#1 - Sidney Crosby His concussion problems seems to be in the past. Still the best center (and player) in the world.
#2 - Evgeni Malkin Clear number 2. His last season was, again, proof of how dominating he can be offensively.
#3 - Steven Stamkos The best goal scorer in the game right now. Had astonishing 60 goals last season.
#4 - Claude Giroux Is the heart and soul of the Flyers offense. Had a serious breakout year last season.
#5 - Pavel Datsyuk At the age of 34 he is still the best 2-way center in the game.
#6 - Henrik Sedin One of the best playmakers. Works his magic with his twin brother Daniel but has also proved that he can play without him.
#7 - John Tavares Carries one of the NHL's worst teams on his back but does it with style. Has risen to elite level offensively.
#8 - Jonathan Toews Excellent 2-way center and solid captain for the Hawks. Had his best season offensively until he got injured.
#9 - Anze Kopitar Best forward on the most recent Stanley Cup champion team. Flew under the radar before, not anymore.
#10 - Jason Spezza The offensive forward had one of his best seasons last year. Carries the Senators offense with Karlsson.
#11 - Nicklas Backstrom Forms the deadly duo with Ovechkin. Washington had a tough regular season but Backstrom was the best player for his team before his injury.
#12 - Joe Thornton He may not be as dynamic playmaker as he was in the past, but his 2-way play has improved alot through the years.
#13 - Eric Staal Carolina's franchise center keeps going year after year without legit top 6 wingers. Regardless keeps putting up points.

Thornton at 12? Lol. I would take atleast 10 centers still on the list over him. Going for the next season.

Yeah a career ppg player isn't worthy of this list because he's now only putting up a terrible 77 points.

Pretty solid list so far. I agree it's between Zetterberg and Getzlaf. Went with Zetterberg because of his consistency and defensive play, but I think Getz is going to have a big bounce back year

Getzlaf. Really underrated around here after his poor season.

Getzlaf was the 30th center last season for points per game.

Is he that much better defensively/physically than I thought?

Well, before that he was:

3rd in '11 (1.13PPG)
8th in '10 (1.05PPG)
4th in '09 (1.12PPG)
9th in '08 (1.06PPG)

So last season seems like an aberration, don't you think? And even with the down year he still ranks 7th (tied with Spezza and Stamkos) among all centers in PPG over the last 5 seasons.

IMO Getzlaf looked fine last season. He had some tough luck like a few others did on the Ducks roster. I actually thought he wasn't even that "lazy" compared to some other seasons. I think we'll see him hit around 75-85 points if he stays healthy, and if the season even starts on time.

I'd take Getzlaf. It's close between him and Zetterberg though. I think Jamie Benn is in the mix too.
