To Montreal:
Tomas Jurco
Brendan Smith
1st 2013
3rd 2014
Fair? IF NOT Who has to add and what.
Don't think Montreal would consider this, don't really want to do it from a Detroit standpoint either. But I am super high on Smith. It does help Detroit in a lot of big ways though, think Holland would do this. Just I wouldn't.
Detroit would be absolutely insane to do this. Lidstrom retired, and the closest thing they have to replacing him is Smith. Jurco is one of their best prospects, and they need those picks. They are an ageing team, who needs to get younger, and adding Plekanec at the expense of Smith, Jurco, and 1st is not how you do that.

Can understand you not really wanting to do this but as you said the Habs wouldn't consider this.As a Habs fan i wouldn't.

Lol - I think the value is fair here. To say Emelin is more effective than Smith is pure homerism. Smith is incredible an already made an impact.
Sorry if I was unclear, I didn't mean to imply Plekanec >Jurco & Emelin>smith separately. Plekanec is much better, and much more valuable to the habs, than most realize, and while emelin's rookie year stats aren't glamorous, his progression in year 1 points to a top-4 dman very soon.
Smith has looked good in the AHL and in his brief NHL call-up, very nice prospect, and Jurco has lots of potential as well, but neither would be the first prospect to underwhelm in full time roles, or not make it to their projected roles.
For Montreal, with their roster make-up and organizational prospect depth, the risk of trading away valuable know commodities for futures that aren't "blue chip" ( I suppose smith is close, then again he's had 3 yrs college + 2 yrs pro to continue improving without the pressures/challenges of NHL level...)
Could easily end up in a few years looking like a "steal" IF Jurco/smith pan out, but again, the risk is all on montreals side bc regardless of what happens to the prospects/picks, the wings get an almost perfect 2nd line centre (for their style of play and team needs) smack dab in the middle of his prime, and a young rugged dman who at worst is a very good 3rd pairing dman, more likely being a top 4 player for the for a long time.
Habs open up two big roster holes (in areas already in need of improvement, top 6 NHLers & rugged dmen), for futures that they already have quality depth of in their prospect pool (scoring winger, top4/top2 dman)
No deal for Montreal, "homer" or not. Hard to judge the "value", though I might even suggest it favors Montreal slightly if one is confident smith is a real deal top4 player soon and Jurco makes it even as just a top 9 fwd...
montreal says no. not rebuilding, prospect pool back in top 10. not trading our best center in his prime and best hitting d man (on 25 y.o). not going to happen
Like some of the other Montreal proposals on the board, I think it is really more of a trade deadline deal, nothing the team would consider at this point. If it so transpired that the team was toast in February and perhaps additionally Emelin somehow hadn't progressed as hoped, and if other center options had progressed (esp. Eller), then maybe a deadline seller move that got us the extra prospects/picks would look better than it does now. But for now, it's impossible.

Let's get rebuilding, time to face it...I'm a huge Habs fan and IT IS time to rebuild get bigger, tougher get more North Americans on are team and trade some Europeons...I know Canadian fans don't WANT TO face the music but it's time...Keep the core of young guys and unload most of the older guys.

Get tougher, trade away Emelin, acquire Jurco... am I missing something here?
they lost Lidstrom this summer who was an excellent (if not the best) 2way defenseman in the NHL. They failed to sign Suter as you all know, so they would let Brendon Smith the NHL ready prospect that they've been devolloping for the passt 5 yrs go for another center... a position that they are already deep.
Detroit say pass
and by the way, that would make MTL regress big time. in doing that deal MTL would be bottom 5 for the next few years for sure
