There's no pleasing some people. If we keep Smith and he develops into a total turd, the complainers would be out in full force crying about how we should have traded him when he still had value as an asset. Everyone here pretty much agreed that Smith should have gone back to junior B for yet another year, so it's not like we're losing a top notch prospect or something. The guy can't beat out any of the top 12 forwards on a supposedly skill starved team, so what are we missing out on? If you want to complain about the pick in the first place, then fine. Even then you have to accept that not every pick is going to be golden. They took a risk and obviously it didn't work out, but if this OA can crack our top 12 and make us better then it's a good deal regardless of how many years he has left in the league.

Expect one more deal in the coming weeks for an OA goalie if DeKort is a bit shakier than anticipated.

Also WR knows the fans will eat this kid up.

Welcome to Windsor Emerson.
We already have three OA's - Posa, Schoenmakers and now Emerson Clark.

@loosepucks: Windsor trades Hunter Smith, a conditional 4th rd pick in '14, and 6th in '15 to Oshawa for Emerson Clark and 3rd round pick in 2014. #OHL

That is better. Way better then straight up.

Smith for 3rd and Clark for 6th. Curious on the conditional pick.

Kerby Rychel (A)

On my way home from the U just now, I wondered what might be added on to the deal to make it reasonable. First thing to come to mind was "maybe a third coming our way, and a 7th or 8th going their way?" I'll take a third and sixth any day. Smith has potential, but isn't top 12 material yet. Hopefully he can find it with the Gens. Clark has been one of my favourite pound-for-pound guys and I'd imagine fans will love him.

It is a fact that Oshawa has both Scott Sabourin (RW) and Emerson Clark (LW) fighting for their 3rd overage spot.

I can see Bowen included in a potential trade but I thought Alonge was done for the season. Both players would be possible O/A next year.
Figment of someone`s imagination, believe it now ???

Did we already burn a card on Hunter Smith?

Why I hate this trade - Smith was drafted knowing he'd be a project. Maybe this is best for Hunter, to keep developing away from his hometown. It will be easier for him to play in Jr B again away from his hometown.

Johnson, Vail, Schoenmakers, Rychel, Ho-Sang, Bezuch, Marchese, Maletta, Michael Clarke - that's nine players right there. Who does Emerson Clark bump down to the fourth line? Or did we just trade for a 4th line OA? Boughner barely plays the fourth line anyways.

Clark, Bilcke, Studnicka as 4th line.

Verbeek in JR B.

Bowen can fill in up front and on back end if need be. Sanvido should play JR B as well.

Johnson, Vail, Schoenmakers
Rychel, Clarke, Ho Sang
Marchese, Maletta, Bezuch
Clark, Studnicka, Bilcke

Bowen/Verbeek as the 13th forward

Posa, Ebert
Seiloff, Bateman
Devlin, McNaughton

Bowen/Sanvido as 7th defenseman

I am actually a fan of the depth of this team. It is the high end skill we are lacking but if Boughner can work some magic and this lunch pail team comes to play, we will make it difficult for other teams. That said, Dekort/Pavelka need to be excellent in most games.

Additionally, Windsor has sent Ottawa's 4th round pick in 2014 to Oshawa to complete the Jeff Brown trade made back on December 31st, 2010.

There's that conditional 4th in the Smith/Clark deal.

New fighting rule details:

#OHL commish Dave Branch on fighting: If you fight more than 10 games you get a 2 game suspension up until 15 fights. Then it increases.

#OHL Fights 16-20 for one player = 2-game suspension for player and 1,000 fine for team.

However, if one player is the instigator, it doesn't count towards the other player's 10 fight limit.

^I like the instigator clause, keeps players from getting jumped and not being able to defend themselves.

So do we have Bilke & Clark make a b-line for the opponents star player, hope someone jumps them and they get a mulligan.

The reason I honestly dont like this trade is because we're building for the future, Were not taking a run this season clearly so why trade Smith....Sure he could turn out to be another Brian Soso but he might not, should have kept him at least for another season see how the kid improves before shipping him off. And we trade for a FOURTH line OA doesn't make sense why not throw Verbeek on that 4th line and get the kid some expierence for next year when we are "supposed" to be making are run at the mem cup.And Bougner plays the fourth line never so have fun with 5 minutes of ice time Clark.

There is actually another rule to this, after the regular season is over it resets to 0, so realistically a player can have 20 fights in a year without being suspended

The 3rd rd pick in 2014 is an important asset more so then Clark I would imagine especially if the loss of draft picks from the alleged scandal stands
It is a matter of cutting the loses now when u have a chance
If as u say u wait till next yr the return would be a lot less if any particularily if Smith only improves marginally
At the end of the day u get a player who can help now in a variety of ways,a 3rd rd pick for a prospect who at this time is a suspect not a prospect and a later rd pick
Spits like many teams do drafted this player on projection more so then actual and felt it was best to move on
I really dont see the problem here in the grand scheme of things

Perhaps this 'TRADE' is really a figment of someone's imagination. Perhaps not. If there was corroboration from a separate source/location it would be more believable. The corroboration finally came via @EmersonClark32 at that point it became believable.
