Jackman

Thought Jackman deserved his own thread for this season. We all know in the past that he has been a huge scapegoat from hardcore fans to casual fans, St. Louis loved to blame a game on Jackman.

This year he has been fantastic. Not only is he playing his usual physical game and pestering the opponents but has been great stepping up on play to generate more offensive chances. I have yet to say he hasn't done anything in-particular to blow a game.

With how well Shatty and Jackman played together they figured Shatty could hold his own with Redden. Hitchcock noticed how Pietrangelo was struggling to carry his partner because he was trying to do too much. Moving Jax to play with Petro has settled Petro down and play the game he's used to playing.

My only concern is that Hitchcock has been keeping Jackman away from the top pairing for a reason. Jackman is what he is: an above average second pairing defensive defenseman with great "intangibles" (). He is overmatched on the top pairing, though we don't really have a better option.

He hasn't been on the top pair for long but I think he's done fairly well. Still better than having any of the other lefties there.

Solid 2nd pairing guy. Having a great season. So many people I know can't stand him. Kinda sad that our only Calder winner ever gets so much grief.

if he was great offensively but awful in his own end, those same morons who bash him would love the guy. but being very good in his own end and offensively weak makes him an easy target for the simpletons.

Some of the criticism of Jackman in the past has been justified, and it'd be disingenuous to say otherwise. This season, he's been really impressive and looks better in the offensive zone than I can ever remember. I think you can argue he's been our most steady defenseman this year.

Considering the difference in play of Petro and Shatty when they are with and without him, Jackman is the team MVP so far.

Normally you find out that Jackman was playing injuried when he is playing bad. I think he probably should have been the Captain over Backes really.

That's a good point. Jackman may be the toughest guy in sports after you hear about all the things he's played through.

Jackman has been making good outlet passes, skating the puck out of danger, and joining the rush to create offence this season. He hasn't allowed many odd-man rushes due to blocked shots (as he had in recent years). He's been playing very well this season.

Could not ask for more from him, he has cleaned his game up and showed leadership that this team really needs. I'm glad the Blues held onto him instead of letting him go like a lot of fans wanted.

Hopefully he stays in St. Louis. Can play almost any pairing, very tough and his offensive game is improved this season.

I've always said the Blues are really lucky to have him. He filled the hole that Big Walt left in terms of aggressiveness and gritty play. He doesn't let the opposition park in front of the net and if they do he's giving them hell for doing so. Everybody praises him this year now that he's doing great even though a lot of the same people on Blues-HFBoards ran him into the ground last summer before he signed.
