Tor - Wsh

Bozak
Komisarek

For

Ward
Schultz
4th

Let's assume JVR and Grabovski are 1C and 2C, that leaves Bozak, Lombardi, Connolly, McClement and Steckel to man 3C and 4C. Bozak allows Brooks Laich to slide back to 2LW as an insurencepolicy if Wolski doesnt pan out.
Toronto get Joel Ward who is a good role player getting paid too much 3M for 3 more years), could form a good shutdown line with McClement and Frattin for instance.
As thanks for taking Ward's contract Caps takes Komisarek and his 2 years of 4,5M off Toronto's hands. Komisarek brings a physical presence that the Caps need on the back-end and might handle playing top-4 minutes with Green or else bottom-pair with Orlov.
Schultz heads to Toronto for the bottom pair, cheaper than Komi and can play the PK and benefit from a fresh start on a new team.

It's pretty cap-neutral, deals from positions of strengths from both teams and they exchange some bad contracts.

Kessel-JVR-Lupul
MacArthur-Grabovski-Kulemin
Frattin-McClement-Ward
4th line (don't know how to line them up)

Liles-Gardiner
Gunnarsson-Phaneuf
Schultz-Franson
Holzer

Ovechkin-Ribeiro-Wolski
Laich-Backstrom-Johansson
Chimera-Bozak-Brouwer
Hendricks-Beagle-Crabb

Alzner-Carlson
Komisarek-Green
Hamrlik-Orlov
Hillen/Erskine

Fair enough?

This doesn't make the Leafs a better or more physical team. Two things they really need to accomplish this offseason.

I don't see the point of getting rid of Schultz...just to take on an even worse contract.

Doesn't benefit the Leafs... So Burke would probably do it.

We need Bozak more than we give him credit for. He's our 2nd best center and you don't trade him until you find an upgrade..even then he would be a great #3

Ward is a very underrated forward...he was a stud for Nashville...very strong on the puck...I think Ward would be a great fit for RC's coaching style!!!

Eh..... Wouldn't hate it from a Washington perspective, but it's hardly a deal to get excited about.

Meh. In the absence of anything to get excited about and make a trade, I'd rather stick with what we already know.

The Caps know what Schultz and Ward bring on and off the ice. Without any real improvement coming from this deal, I'd just assume keep them. There just isn't anything enticing about the offer that makes you say 'this is a deal I want to see get done.'

a fourth for Komi would probably be an overpayment.

No thanks

Doesn't help us in any way. Bozak is the 1C until someone takes the spot from him or we trade or draft one. Put Laich in the mix and maybe I'm interested.

I don't even see where Bozak fits in with Backstrom and Ribiero in the top 6, Chimera-Laich-Ward always worked really well, so none of this makes sense.

Yeah Johansson, Ribeiro and Perreaultski is just what this team needs in the top 6.

Bozak > Laich as a C.

I don't see why the Capitals would reject, Bozak is the clear best player in the deal, and no assets of serious value are getting moved the other way. I really like Ward but at his price tag it's tough to warrant keeping him around, especially when you can get a player like Bozak.

For as sophomore slumpy as Johansson was he still put up points throughout the year. How are you so shortsighted and scapegoat-desperate that you can't see that in a third year player?

Besides that, I don't see Bozak supplanting Backstrom or Ribiero, and that means third line duties. Is Bozak the better center in a third line role than Laich? Because I'm not sure that I believe that. I'm not saying the Caps get railed in the trade or anything, I know what's going on, I just don't see how Bozak fits easily, and it's not particularly enticing.

I agree that trade favors the Caps a bit. What if we swap 4th to 3rd or 2nd?
Bozak is a good player, but Komi's value is waaay too negative.

Johansson's not the problem in my mind. For me, it's the fact that if you leave Laich as the 3C, the last top 6 winger spot is going to be either Perrault, who's unproven at wing, or Wolski, who scored 4 goals last year and is a major question mark (and that's not even bringing up Brouwer, who after years of playing with Kane and Toews, and this year playing with Ovie and Backstrom, has pretty well demonstrated that he doesn't have the offensive skill to be any more than a 35 point player). While Laich may be a better 3C than Bozak, he's far and away a better 2LW option than Perrault or Wolski. One of those two can then either take the 3RW spot opened up by Ward, or move up to the top 6 in Brouwer's spot if a shutdown 3rd line is needed.

Basically, I think this top 9

Johansson-Backstrom-Ovechkin
Laich-Ribeiro-Brouwer
Chimera-Bozak-Perrault/Wolski

looks a lot better than this one

Johansson-Backstrom-Ovechkin
Perrault/Wolski-Ribeiro-Brouwer
Chimera-Laich-Ward
