a goalie less league??
Not goalie less, though it might seem that way. The bigger problem is the disparity in the league, there are a couple, or mostly just one, powerhouse team(s) that pounds every other team. Results like 18-2 oder 23-1 are not unheard of.
Tobias Rieder had scored 177 points in that same league a few years before. But although 100 point seasons are not that unusual those numbers are.

On a side note: I like how everyone is always bringing up this "German Gretzky" stuff about Draisaitl and pointing to his 192 point season in the German U16 league, when in that same year Dominik Kahun of the Sudbury Wolves had 206 points (69G 137A).

From a recent HF article on the NCAA:

Quote:
Michigan Tech claimed their first GLI title since 1980 in stunning fashion, shutting out Michigan 4-0 in the semi-final game before doing the same to Western Michigan in the championship game. And the Huskies didn’t miss a beat without top goal scorer Blake Pietila (NJD) either. This year also marked the first time since 1980 that the title game did not feature either Michigan or Michigan State. Freshman Phoenix Copley was brilliant between the pipes for Michigan Tech, stopping all 70 combined shots he faced to earn the tournament’s MVP honor. Teammate Jujhar Khaira (EDM) joined Copley on the All-Tournament team after his best weekend outing of the season so far. The Surrey, BC native posted three points (a power-play goal and two assists) in the opener versus Michigan and his strong net presence wreaked havoc on both the Wolverines and the Broncos throughout the tournament.

This kid is really stepping forward as the season progresses. Looks to me like he has become Mich. Tech's top center, which is very good for a freshman. He has 15 points in 19 games which puts him tied for 1st on MTU.

I'm really excited about this guy. Putting up those points so far as an 18 year old freshman at the college level is quite impressive.

Khaira is having a good year so far, I hope he keeps developing the way that he is. Nice to see a big centreman that is having a good season.

Not too shay at all, IIRC OilersChick said that he needed to get stronger so if he's doing this mostly on will and skill instead of brute force that bodes well for him when he does get stronger.

Him and Zharkov are a couple of our most intriguing prospects. If one of them can turn out or even exceed expectations that would be big for us.

Belleville just added a couple of solid offensive OHLers in Alan Quine and Tyler Graovac.

Might see a jump in Zharkov's point totals.

That same article also said Bigos was named to the all-star team as well.

Has Khaira been playing center this season? I thought he played LW.

He is a center. He has played a lot with Alex Petan (RW) and Blake Pietila (LW).

We will find out in 3 yrs or so as he develops in college. Do you think that he might make a move to Juniors if he has a good year this year.

I don't think so.

It sounded like a good education was really important to him and his family.

Yeah and it sounds like he'll take some time before he's pro ready anyway so we may as well see how he progresses. He'll have 3 years after this one and if getting stronger is his biggest hurdle, there's no better place than the NCAA to do that in season.

I agree. He had a chance to play in the WHL this year but chose college. I suspect that the Oilers are fine with this as well.

I just noticed that he was one of the youngest kids in the draft so there is no need to rush him.

Putting his production in perspective, at the same age Pitlick went 38gms 11g 8a 19pts and what is even better, Nick Bjugstad had 8 goals and 20 points in 29 games. I am not saying he is anywhere close to Bjugstad who is a terrific prospect, but he is almost as big and will likely out produce him this year.

And Pitlick was 19 for nearly his whole freshman year because of his late birthday.

Khaira doesn't turn 19 for another 7 months.

Should be interesting to see how he does as the season goes on.

Actually, Pitlick had just turned 18 in his Freshman year. He was drafted out of college.
