The Phoenix Coyotes announced Monday that they've signed center Jordan Martinook to an entry-level contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Last season, the 6-foot-1, 209-pound forward tallied 40 goals, 24 assists and 80 penalty minutes in 72 games with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League. Martinook ranked second on the Giants in goals and was third on the team in points. He also was 3-6-9 in six playoff games.
The 20-year-old native of Leduc, Alberta was selected by the Coyotes in the second round (No. 58) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
He is likely to play for Portland of the American Hockey League this season.
"Phoenix said if they wanted me to play junior I wouldn't be leaving Vancouver," Martinook told the Vancouver Sun. "They said they want me to go down there and train with their guys and get used to their systems and start my career there."
