Rather trade Mac than Kulie. Kulie's much more defensively responsible and if he can get his sniping back again, we have a solid player once again. He can play on the PK and PP and he knows how to use his body effectively to cover the puck, not to mention size for a guy in our team.
One thing that I love about where the leafs are now at this stage of the rebuild, is the fact that younger guys are putting pressure on the established guys for roster spots. This is something we haven't really had in as long as I can remember in my life as a leaf fan. As is stands now, trading Kulimen would be the wrong move. Unless of course it is for that elusive number one C, and in that case you can bet the otherr team would be asking for Kulemin.
But the pressure is on Kulimen to perfrom back to '10/'11 form or he will more than likey be beat out by a younger, hungrier guy. Frattin seems to be the prime suspect for this, solidly built, tough, good shot, but ofcourse he isn't at the point yet. Its completely up to Kulemin to perform. Burke has given his vote of confident to the second line. So underperforming Is the only way he goes.
Only way I see Kulemin being dealt is if he is packaged up for a superior forward. Trading him in a 1-for-1 or for picks is not beneficial. He is extremely sound with his 2 way play so at worst and if he doesn't rebound from his offensively inferior season last year, he's still a serviceable 3rd liner in the mold of the 2007 Ducks 3rd line.

The answer to every "should we trade player x" question pretty much always has the same answer.
It depends on the return.
Unless you are suggesting a specific deal, your question is pointless.
Not really, there are other factors involved, like discussing internal replacements, the timing for the rebuild etc etc. Yes the return is the important piece here, but a discussion can still be had, If your open to it. If not, well its guna be a looong year.
Kule may be on a crash collision with Ashton in a year or 2. Again I love Kule's attributes, he is the best corner man, defensive fwd on our team. When he plays big he's a monster work horse.
But if he slips to a 3rd line player, I think this is where Ashton(who I predict will breakout soon) becomes a better fit. So while I like Kule, if he doesn't fit into the top 6, he may be on the way out.
He's part of the top 6 that have failed miserably the past 4 years, we need to add and subtract from the group. Starting with unloading that 5.5M overpaid contract to one of the most overrated players on the team and misguided fan favorite, Mikhail Grabvoski.
At the moment, JVR is the only one that is absolved of any blame. For this team to move fwd it has to make significant changes, to go with this nucleus for a 5th straight year and expect different results, is idiotic IMO. If we were actually close to making the playoffs then I can see some logic that we may be close, but 25th place is not going in the right direction and not close top making the playoffs.
