4 Trade Tweaking [Chi/Bos/Phx/Sjs]

Inspired by this previous thread.... http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...679&highlight=

Which to my surprise had some positive feed back. I've read peoples comments and reassessed the trades and have a new series of tweaks for the club. Some of the trades are the same, some have been adjust a some new ones added.

Leafs 12/13 Roster - Before

Lupul - van Riemsdyk - Kessel
Kadri - Grabovski - MacArthur
Kulemin - McClement - Frattin
Komarov - Steckle - Brown

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Komisarek
Liles - Franson

Reimer
Scrivens

I read through the most recent trade proposals on HFB involving the leafs and found four small trades, no big names, no blockblusters, no 3-way deals, no quality for quantity just small time, hockey trades, which it seems a good chunk of posters on here are okay with from both fan bases.

Trade A - Repeat from last time

Matthew Lombardi

Kyle Chipchura

Inspired by: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1237529

Reasoning:Lombardi took big strides in his recovery last season and began playing well as a depth scorer, but from top six depth on wing in Toronto [Kessel/Lupul/MacArthur/Kulemin/Kadri/Frattin], and Toronto not willing to play an offensive 3rd line, Lombardi might have a hard time fitting in next season.
Chipchura just resigned for cheap and is an effective bottom six winger, something the Yotes have a fair amount of.

Yotes have ridiculous cap space, so can afford to use it to upgrade to get some needed scoring depth.

Trade B - Repeat from last time

Clarke MacArthur
2013 TOR 3rd

Ryane Clowe

Inspired by: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...1238851&page=5

Reasoning: A lot of talk around these two players being swapped. Sharks add a playmaking winger, Leafs add a grittier one. It seemed like 80% or so of Sharks fans liked this, and 80% of leafs fans liked this in the last thread. So I'll keep this in here.

Trade C

Tyler Bozak
Korbinian Holzer

Niklas Hjarmalsson

Inspired by: Lost the thread, but someone mentioned if the Leafs want Hammer they need to be willing to give up Bozak and Holzer which they wouldn't be willing to do. People went on to quote this post saying it was fair value but saying the leafs wouldn't do it. But I think they would be. Hawks need a C, get one. Holzer fills in for Hammer, Hammer steps into leafs top 4. Holzer is a cheaper Hammer, but isn't as sure of a bet and Hammer is a bit more well rounded. Also Bozak is redundant on the leafs right now.

Trade D

Joffrey Lupul

David Krejci

Inspired by: Again, a common theme.

Reasoning: Boston is looking for a scoring winger. The leafs have too many scoring wingers (Kessel, Lupul, JVR, MacArthur, Kulie, Kadri, Frattin). The leafs need a top six C, boston has many very capable C (Krejic, Seguin, Bergeron, Kelly, Peverley) If Seguin is going to play C, you're not going to play Bergeron or Seguin as your 3rd line C.

Leafs 12/13 Roster - After

van Riemsdyk - Krejci - Kessel
Kadri - Grabovski - Clowe
Kulemin - McClement - Frattin
Chipchura - Steckle - Brown

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Hjarmalsson
Liles - Franson/Komisarek

Reimer
Scrivens

Final: In the end, not a drastic change. The Krejci move is the only big one.

In....

Clowe, Chipchura, Hjarmalsson, Krejci

Out...

Bozak, Holzer, Lombardi, MacArthur, Lupul

Other teams address some important needs, such as depth scoring, a second line C, more points down the wing. While the leafs address two major issue for there club, a lack of size and higher end talent at C.

Krejci is worth more than Lupul.
No way Boston does that.

I'm actually not much of a Clowe fan, but I don't see how trading him for Mac helps the Sharks much. Even with a 3rd added in. Clowe is actually the primary playmaker on his line, so swapping him for a guy is less of playmaker doesn't seem like much help. In theory, if not much in practice, Clowe is also supposed to protect Couture. And Mac isn't going to help there at all.

If Clowe is moved, I would rather it be for a young player of some sort who at least has a chance of being a longer term fit with the Sharks. Mac just won't be.

Boston would have to have been smoking a lot of crack to accept that deal.

Yeah I think Toronto makes out pretty damn well in 3/4 trades, although 2 of them are totally concievable (if not particularly compelling for the other team).

I think if Boston wanted to trade David Krejci for a scoring winger they would probably be able to get more of a sure thing than Joffrey Lupul, although I suppose stranger things have happened.

Trades A through C have been posted over, and over again. Trade D falls through - Boston says "hell no"

I'd give you a late pick 7th or 6th for Lombardi, hell even Conolly not a roster player though.

Either your numbers are wrong or 80% of sharks fans are crazy.

Anybody that thinks Clowe is worth slightly more then MacArthur needs their head examined.

Sharks say no way. I wont even get into Krejci for Lupul...

I don't think any of the deals would get done by the teams not from Toronto

Seeing that Lombardi had his best year in Phx I could see this happening, but with the unsure CBA I don't see the Yotes adding Lombardi without a little sweetener going to Phx. I can't see Clowe going to the Leafs without Kulemin+ going to the Sharks. The Chicago deal is probably close value wise but I don't know why the Hawks would want Bozak when they already have Bolland. They need an upgrade at C. Given Lupuls injury history and upcoming Ufa status I can't imagine any reason for the B's to make that deal. But other then that they aren't bad.

We'd want Kulemin+ for Clowe not Mac+.

No Luongo?

San Jose would probably prefer Kulemin+(maybe a 2nd?) than Macarthur.
I think Toronto would need to add to Lupul as well.

I am surprised Luongo wasn't included, bonus points for that.

I would do that Chicago trade.

I don't know how many Hawks fans would agree with me, but Bozak solves the #2C problem and Holzer could probably slot into the bottom pairing this season.

However Hjalmarsson may end up -- as far as I'm concerned he still has a lot of potential -- it's clear that he's not developing any further under Quenneville. Unless Q is getting fired by November, you might as well trade Jelly for what he's worth now and hope that Q doesn't neuter the next guys.

It'd ultimately be better for both the club and Hjalmarsson.

Brutal trade for the Bruins and if Clowe was made available, I think the Sharks would be offered better packages than that.

Toronto need's to add on the Boston trade (significantly.), on the SJ trade (not by much.) and Chicago.

I'd give a 2nd to SJ instead and would add either a third or a B prospect to Chicago.

Boston is up to what Boston would need more, maybe dman's or Prospect has they are thin on the prospect base (Spooner, Kohkhlachev, Hamilton, Knight and then it's a downfall..)

You can afford to be a thin on prospects when the core of the roster is young. Lucic (24), Seguin (20), Krejci (26), Bergeron (27), Marchand (24) and Rask (25) promise to be around for years.

The only issue with depth in the organization is on defense and in goal.

On the trade, um no. We are not curing a division rivals biggest weakness. Personally, I think Chiarelli should stop trading with inter-division teams altogether unless it's a situation like the Senators wanting to dump Chris Kelly for a song.

Bozak is no more a legit No. 2 centre than Sam Gagner. He had the 2nd highest ESTOI per-game among Leaf forwards last year and the 3rd highest PPTOI. He'd be playing with good players in Chicago, but he's not going to get premium ice-time or PP time so if you think he'll come close to matching the 47 points he scored last year - well, he won't.

Not that the value is off.. but Hammer can't be the best player traded in any deal he's involved in. If the Hawks are going to move him, it has to be in a package to get a legit No. 2 centre back.
