Leafs because for much of the 11-12 season they were in a Playoff spot. So if they can play the same way again I can see them making it.

The anti-Leafs bias on this site is hilarious.

Habs had most injuries last year...that didn't help , not only did they lead the league in Injuries but it was quality.
Habs lost Captain Gionta for most of the season , Markov was out pretty much 90% of the season.
Wouldn't you agree that any team would benifit from a 30 goal scorer in Gio and a 40 pts + star D in Markov (yes injury factor but he has been healing for a while now).
Especially considering our team core is fairly young and a year of development is huge , Subban/Pacioretty/Eller/Desharnais/Price/Emelin are all trending up.
Habs will be a borderline playoffs team if they stay healthy this year but as their prospects develop look for them to be challenging for the division within the next 2-3 years.

They'll likely both miss so it doesn't really matter lol.

Habs season, by quarters :

1/4 : Terrible
2/4 : Average
3/4 : Bad
4/4 : Bad

Habs started with a 8 game slump, attempted to pull out of misery with more or less success then stayed mediocre (with a few cold streaks) the rest of the year after Cunneybad took over as coach.

Toronto's season :

1/4 : Quite good
2/4 : Average
3/4 : Bad
4/4 : Disgusting

They were in a playoff spot but then managed to choked all the way to 26th place, 2pts ahead of the Habs.

Very glorious showing indeed to have been in a playoff spot...

One year ago: hey if you just look at the 2nd half of the season the Leafs were a playoff team
Today: hey if you just look at the 1st half of the season the Leafs were a playoff team

Combine the 11-12 first half with the 10-11 second half and you got a pretty good team. However, I think it's more a case of regressing to the mean. Toronto isn't very good despite their fans constantly looking at the best parts of their seasons while ignoring the worst, which is simply intellectually dishonest.

Gotta go with Toronto... Montreal had Carey Price last year and look where it landed them...

Toronto's got too much depth up front to have problems scoring goals, and the much needed addition of size at the top of their lineup should help immensely in time of possession and goals against.

Montreal it seems didn't really make any effort to improve this offseason, and their leading scorer is an older guy who's style of play leads to anything but longevity.

Habs because the Leafs were in the playoffs for much of the season but ended up finishing 26th in the league. If they continue playing the same way they were they will finish dead last by about 40 points.

All I gotta say is MTL has a goalie. Goalies win you championships. With almost 400 games lost, the Habs are a completely different team. Here's hoping to Marky coming back for a big season (when ever it starts) and the core (Patches, Subban, Colesy, Plek, DD, Gio) to be solid.

After the Leafs were so amazing until February, they managed to finish 2pts ahead of the Habs worst season since the lockout.

One of the worst seasons in Habs history...literally. 31 was the third least amount of wins in Habs history since coming out of the original 6 era.

The downside, Therrien coached the Habs in the two years they had less wins.

Sorry, but I just don't buy that. Markov is a guy who can't be expected to play anywhere near a full season, and even if he does, we have no idea if he'll have anywhere near the same form that he had pre-injury. Gionta can be expected to play more, but you also can't expect a guy like Cole to play a full season that he did.

Habs got the goalie...I think toronto's team is a bit stronger but unless reimer significantly improves the playoffs will be hard to sniff...whereas price alone gives mtl a fighting chance

bout even, homer voted leafs

I could actually see, with a shortened season, the Leafs doing better.

The Leafs just cannot keep it up for a full season, but seem to be a playoff team for a portion every year and either start that play too late, or fall completely off the wagon at the end. So I wouldn't be totally shocked with a shortened season they look better.

I voted Leafs because I am a large Jay McClement homer.

I love the tags by the way.

I was going to post something similar to that. Montreal has a clear #1 Goalie and finished worse then the Leafs, when on paper they should have finished higher based on Price alone.

Even if Markov's not at full form, he's better than Spacek or St. Denis or the other bad defensemen we had last year. Why can't Cole play a full season? Other guys his age have done it.

And it is really unlikely we'll have 400+ man games lost to injury again.

habs had Price last year and still finished behind the Leafs. I don't think it's the slam dunk the poll makes it look like.
