What's interesting is the Mets only have two players under contract after this season.

Can someone please explain to me why the Braves traded Tommy Hanson? I don't get it. I'm not the most knowledgeable baseball fan but I just don't get it. Is he considered washed up or something? Even with the decline in velocity.

The Mets had to do that. If not they may as well move the team to Wyoming. Wilpon still needs to sell. It's getting ridiculous.

The Yankees are far from done but there might start to be a shift in power in the AL East. Toronto is stacking up, Baltimore should hang around, and Tampa is Tampa. I'm not that familiar with the Yankees prospects but they can't have this feast and famine lineup anymore. Everyone is a year older too. They desperately need to inject some youth and some gritty blue collar role players into that team.

Decline in velocity and going by some reports his shoulder is pretty messed up. Could be a case of Braves ditching damaged goods just in time.

Walden has kinda stalled in his development. Still wild and inconsistent.

Keeping Ichiro is vital. More vital than the need to get younger. He helps change the dynamic of the offense. This team needs to get out from under of relying on the HR ball. Ichiro for a full season, with a healthy Gardiner will do that.

Plenty of crappy catchers being non tendered tonight, I'm sure the Yanks will get one of them.

Like the Mariners did with Pineda.

Braves have a wealth of pitching. And this moves makes the Braves arguably the best bullpen in the league.

From my long-gone days as a Nats fan I can remember that Lannan was a Mets killer, but he was pretty average against all other teams. It could benefit the Mets that he'd never pitch against them again But it would be kind of like the Rangers bringing in Blake Comeau

I'd like to see the Mets take a flyer on Brian Wilson. Could be worth the risk on a one-year deal for a guy coming off an injury.

Mets should make a run at Saltalamacchia. Red Sox are overloaded with catchers now that they signed Napoli.

He was dreadful last year, but still has a .686 OPS against RHP for his career. His defense got better last season and he threw out a quarter of runner. He's not terrible as a platoon guy.

I agree though, they need to get better back there.

And so it begins with the rapid deterioration of the Yankees left side of the infield. I am hoping Cashman makes some moves to make this team significantly younger and more athletic.

They need legit major leaguers. Right now, they have 3 and half legit ML players (excluding pitchers): Wright, Tejada, Davis and Murphy (he gets a half because he really doesn't have a logical position to play).

They certainly seem concerned about the luxury tax.

It's kind of humbling as a Yankees fan that the left side of the infield has gone from A-Rod & Jeter to Nunez & Nix in a span of 2 months.

Let's hope Tex can hit at least .150 in the first 2 months this time around...

I miss when the Yankees could play long ball and small ball and play defense. Why does Cashman have to make these teams so one-dimensional....

It's not his style. Bob Watson was a NL guy and built the Dynasty along the lines of speed, defense and hustle.

Cashman inherited the Dynasty. The guy's obsessed with old veteran starters and Big Boppers.

Whatever, I guess. Hard to argue against what, 14 division titles since 1994?
