I just can't believe the Rangers would come back with the exact same blue line after it was evident that they couldn't trust the 3rd pairing at all - Bickel in particular - in the playoffs. I still think another veteran will be heading here.

Nice cheap depth signing though...

Glad we brought him back. Good #6-7 option to battle with Bickel, and adds much needed depth with Sauer unexpected to miss at least some time.

Emi's better than Bickel right now. 750k is nothing to get upset about really. Nice deal.

Bickel, Stralman, and Eminger are the bottom 3 until Sauer gets healthy. Not bad considering none will play more than 7 mins a game.

IMO, when he was healthy Eminger played solid D for the Rangers.

You can't count on him at this point...

Wonderful, now the Rangers have two 7th defensemen fighting to win a regular spot.

Good with this. Would have preferred Jurcina as an upgrade for the same role, but I like Emmy.

He was the only Ranger to go over to a group of kids trying to get the attention of the Rangers press box when I was in Raleigh last year. There were 3 other guys, Callahan, Woywitka and one I can't remember. Also, there was an altercation in the crowd right in front of them. It was the only thing all game that Larry Brooks actually got up for.

Stralman is going to get a lot more than 7 minutes per game.

All set.

Bickel was a 24 year old rookie.

Its also entitely possible he will grow as a player.

People seem to forget that. Defensemen don't tend to peak until around 30.

I agree and contrary to what some people say--Bickel is a decent skater for his size. He still needs some work but these potshots at him remind me of the potshots taken at Boyle after his first season with us. Boyle worked hard to improve areas he was weak at--Bickel just might do the same. Ridiculous to write a player off after his rookie season.

Eminger to me is an insurance policy. I expect the Rangers are going to try to upgrade their D sometime during the year and especially if Sauer can't come back. Rangers like Bickel's toughness and willingness. These are two key elements to players on the cusp.

McDonaugh, Girardi
Staal, Stralman
Del Zotto, Bickel/Eminger

regular season is fine. Playoff time they hope Sauer is back and if not they trade for a vet

Yeah but Bickel has never been an exceptional hockey player. Except maybe one season in the NAHL.

Not too thrilled about this.

Basically have 2 ideal #7 guys battling for the 6D spot.

Emi isn't bad. For those of you that are saying we have the exact same D, maybe so, but now Staal is back for the whole season. This pretty much is a huge plus.

plus we had the 3rd best team defense in the league. so returning with the same group isn't such a bad thing

Do you honestly think Bickel and Eminger contributed to that much?

Those guys were stapled to the bench in any big game this team played.

Would've liked to see a different signing for depth.

It's fine for what it is. Remember also, if the cap goes down, the Rangers might be able to land someone (Doulgas Murray?) as a rental.

Also maybe McLIrath is ready at year's end? Who knows.

If I'm Stu though, I work on my power skating during the lockout.
