Nikita Kucherov is satisfied with the contract he signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The 19 years old Russian forward singned on Monday a three-year contract with the team that selected him in the second round (58th overall) in the 2011 draft.
"I'm really happy. First contract in the NHL, it is important", first mentioned the Russian in english, who started to learn the language two weeks ago, just before asking the help of his compatriot Mikhail Grigorenko to translate.
"I work hard and I'll always continue to work hard. The most important for me is to continue to strengthen my shoulder and resume training with contact as soon as possible. My shoulder is getting better and better and I can not wait any longer, "he said after the morning skate of the Remparts.
Kucherov suggested that the first practice with contact could occur around September 25. Acting a bit safer, the team's therapist Steve Belanger instead talked about the beginning of October.
"As for my comeback, the doctor continues to talk about the end of October, but I feel good and I hope it will be sooner," wishes the player that the Remparts selected 43rd overall at the last CHL Import Draft.
Commenting on the contract he has signed with the Lightning, Kucherov assured that it wouldn't change anything in his attitude.
"This is great news, but it does not change my way of seeing things. I am happy to be in Quebec and my only goal is to help the team win.
"For now, I focus on what I need to work for my shoulder to come back at 100% and then hopefully score points and gather a lot of experience. I want to learn a lot about in north american hockey."
Saying he's very lucky to be a part of Quebec's team, Kucherov thinks the same of Tampa Bay. The former CSKA Moscow playerhad some discussions with GM Steve Yzerman and seems excited to be part of the family.
"This is a great organization and there seems to be very good people in this team. At this point, I want to help the Remparts, and I want to help the Lightning in the near future, "concluded Kucherov.
