Devils & flyers.

To NJD:
Matt Read
3rd 2014

To FLYERS:
Anton Volchenkov

Simple enough Devils get there 2nd/3rd Line Winger and Philly get there Defenseman.

I'd do it. Doubt the Flyers would though

No thanks. Cut the pick out and I'd do it but then again I highly doubt the devils would.

A third round pick is the make or break for you?

Volchenkov is overrated by many, Volchenkov ≤ Read.

If you let Volchenkov play the game the way he wants to, he's a beast. Devils have kind of harnessed his physical instinct and turned him into a defensivive and a penalty kill specialist. If Read was not on the Flyers, I'd do this deal in a heartbeat. Volchenkov seems like he would be a beast on the Flyers.

Philly isnt going to trade Read who is coming off a great year 25 goals 47 points in 79 games is something every team would want for a player just coming into the league unless it is an amazing offer.
This amazing offer isnt going to inclue Volchenkov who has a 4.2m cap hit that expires in 4 years? Philly cant risk this extra cap hit because it is quite possible the salary cap gets lowered adding on Volchenkovs cap hit would make resigning Giroux, Schenn, Couturier, Rinaldo, Wellwood, Meszaros, while trying to replace the loss of Pronger and Timmonen.

Not interested in Volchenkov at that cap hit unless it's for virtually nothing.

I'm surprised that a third round pick two years from now is a dealbreaker for you. But I feel the bigger consideration is this:

Correct. Lou is the longest tenured GM in the league, and yet there are still two teams he has never made a trade with: the Rangers and the Flyers. I don't see him starting now.

Devils would probably have to add for this purely hypothetical trade situation.

Taking the whole these teams never trade thing out, the Flyers wouldn't trade Read for Volch.

I dislike the trade a little for value, and of course it seems counter productive to deal a rival exactly the kind of player they have a lot of use for at the moment. If the defense is absolutely awful this year and Matt Read slumps a little bit, I might change my tune at the dealine, but I don't think so.

I like the idea because its not terrible value and it fits both teams needs, so it's a good proposal, I just don't think I'd do it atm.

They might. It depends entirely on how desperate they get for defencemen. I agree it is unlikely though, and as it stands right now, they're better served hanging onto Read.

A couple of years ago when Langenbrunner was on the table I believe it was reported we had the best deal on the table, but Lou would not trade him to the Flyers lol

Also we wouldn't make this trade. The A-train is not the type of defenseman the Flyers are looking for, and I believe he is over paid for what he brings to the table, but damn the dude can hit.

Honestly I would have to think about it because of the uncertainty in the cap but otherwise yes. that may seem a little strange given the other reactions to the trade but i think Volchenkov would do very well on the Flyers and I may not be as high on Read as some other Flyers fans.

if the flyers d takes another hit, with grossmann's knees and Kimmo getting up there in age it seems almost inevitable, i would def pull the trigger.

Volch isn't the best fit for the Devils current system and I don't think he'd fit in with Lavi's either.

Considering how the Stars tanked afterwards, maybe we should have

But yeah, this would never happen. I'm even surprised when Lou does minor trades with the Islanders.

Read brings too much value to the roster to move him in this type of deal.

Interesting. If the pick is really the holdup, I'd take Read for Volch straight up easily.

So you expect him to play behind Giroux and Briere on Rw for he next atleast 5 years?pretty sure he won't be to happy,he puts numbers up this year like last he'll be asking to get out of Philly for a bigger role.
