With the 22nd pick on the draft y2kcanucks is proud to select, from the Calgary Flames and Gatineau Olympiques, forward Emile Poirier.

You know that taking too many Flamers is bad for your health (and the moral of your fantasy squad)

I wanted Fucale there but he was nabbed earlier. My thought process here...someone has to score.

I also wanted to take a chance on Fucale, but wasn't given that opportunity. And yes someone has to score occasionally for the Flamers... very occasionally.

Looking to move Patrick Kane for a centre of similar ability... Willing to package Kane with other solid keepers (Perron, Seabrook, etc) in order to get a top centre.

Just an FYI, you also have John Tavares on your roster that doesn't show up on the spreadsheet. You might want to get Pauser to fix that...it should help your center depth a tad.

Yep, he was a part of ahmon's roster, which is now your roster. He still shows up on the yahoo roster, just not on the spreadsheet.

It works the other way...my offers get even more lopsided in my favor.

No. Those are just players who he would probably keep.

Once you announce your keepers before the draft you can no longer change your list, or make pre-draft trades. You can keep whomever you want.

I remember he had offered me Eriksson and Huberdeau... plus a swap of rookie pics that went in my favour.... for Gabriel Landeskog.

Still glad I didn't do it but it certainly was a decent offer. Unlike you when you're drunk.

GL is my future franchise player.

I had a thought, that what if drafted players could be kept in the minors for as long as they are eligible to be sent down without going on waivers?

Would make the draft be a lot more meaningful, as I think that looking at my prospect pool and others there's no way everyone would be getting roster spots after just 25 games, unless a team is purposely trying to rebuild. There are only twelve teams, so the NHL talent is a lot greater than on regular teams, making it a lot harder for a rookie to crack the lineup until they've proven themselves for a bit longer.

I think that otherwise the vast majority of picks would hit UFA, thus defeating the point of the draft.

The purpose of the minor leagues is for teams to be able to stash rookies who aren't in the NHL. Yahoo adds a lot of these players when they sign ELC's even if they aren't in the NHL. Instead of having to stash them on your active roster and carry dead weight you can keep them on your minor league team. But once they become more or less regular NHL players you have to activate them.

All I'm saying is that the vast majority of picks are likely to hit UFA, as the quality of players they have to compete with is much higher than in the NHL. Very few players will merit being in over regular roster players after just 25 games.

It makes the draft seem almost inconsequential, unless there was a longer period to allow them to "develop", which I would be in favour of.

I can get on board with the idea VKW is suggesting.

Might even make more sense to pair the number up with rookie keeper eligibility (cant remember the number) instead of 25 games though, because in reality nobody is going to keep some meddling prospect a)on their reserve list for 100+ NHL games if they are crap and b) going to use up a prospect space on a guy who is floundering.

My two cents.

Jacob de la Rose, keeping it Swedish

Edit: Also, I'd be alright with VKW's idea. Seems to me the 25GP mark will render most prospects outside of the top 3-5 picks irrelevant. You generally don't see enough from a 2nd/3rd round guy in his first 25 games to warrant adding him to your roster.

Where is the list of minor teams?

And what might work is raising the number of games played a bit, or saying a player isn't available to another team without giving the owner 48 hours notice that someone intends to claim him.

Yup. When you have the firepower the Oilers have and Schultz on defense, it's hard to imagine him not putting up a lot of points.
