I think if they strike/lockout, then we should send a message by stop buying nhl merchandise, but what i mean by that is the sponsors. Everyone says they'll stop watching hockey, etc. but that is an empty threat. I think we should all instead stop buying dempsters bread, Sydney crosby, or going to caruba collision, or..... you get what i mean, no? Do you think that would impact anything, or anyone?
not saying to stop your tickets, i'm saying, instead of buying a product that sponsors the nhl, or is a sponsor of an nhl player. ex.
- Forzani Group (Sport Expert ,Sport Check,Inter Sport Hockey Expert ,etc, etc )
- Sirius XM Radio
- Bridgestone
- Ticket Master
- Energizer
- Verizon Wireless
- Visa
- Pepsi
- Scotia Bank
- Geico
- Cisco
- Kraft
- Starwood ( hotel )
- Bell
- Lg
- Honda
- Mc Donalds (Us Only but let's boycott them anyway)
- Us Army (don't know how you can boycott this one anyway )
- Gatorade
- Huggies
- Blackberry (yes you are reading right)
- Enterprise
- Canadian Tire
- Tim Horton
- RDS
- TSN
- CTV
- NBC
- Reebok
- Molson beer (Futur Sponsor)
- Budweiser (current Sponsor)
i'm sure you could pick at least one to ignore.

Well, since I don't drink and own an iPhone ... Easy to ignore those
I must be a lousy consumer because I hardly support any of these companies
Tim Horton's, however, I do frequent occasionally.
I support anyone who wants to do this but in order to make it at least marginally useful someone needs to organize a public campaign (e.g. at minimum an online petition of pledges) so that the companies are aware. I suspect it won't really have any impact on the NHL-sponsor relationships but it certainly doesn't hurt to try, and where the NHL itself is concerned it would be a pretty strong expression of how upset fans are about all of this.
Why would you advocate punishing sponsors? Do you really think they WANT a lockout? No hockey = no exposure. They want the games to be played as much as we all do.
Boycotts, petitions, etc, etc. None of that means squat. Nobody is going to pressure either side into getting a deal done.
It would take an incredible effort from fans and long time (like, longer than the lockout) for any business to notice any drop in demand, correlate it with the NHL, and put pressure on NHL owners. Businesses aren't going to be sitting around on September 20th going, hey Dave didn't stop in for his usual coffee - get the NHL on the line!
If this makes you feel better, then that's all this is.
None of these companies are going to be worried over a small amount of customers like that. Certainly the league won't care, they know they still have millions of customers (when you factor in tickets, merchandise, TV, etc).
That's why fan organized boycotts like this will never work.
You should stop going to games to get the ticket prices down. Not because millionaires are arguing with multimillionaires over who gets more of the billion.
You understand how many companies sponsor the NHL right? In one way or another there are thousands of corporations who sponsor the NHL, whether that be a commercial, spot on the boards, ice etc. it would be almost impossible to boycott all of these companies without it being a major inconvenience on your own life.
And as Beeshack mentioned the sponsors want this deal done just as much as we do. They are paying sponsors by choice.
You'd be better off with a group of fans in front of the FNC burning in effigy the bodies of Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr. That would make the news.
Actually, that sounds like a really good idea. Two lockouts this close together is ridiculous, and bad for the sport. If there were a way of getting the word out to a ton of Sabres fans and Canadians north of the border, then putting together a ton of press hits, that might actually do something. I think all of the fans who would normally be going downtown for three hours would take an afternoon to go down for an hour and stage a little demonstration.
Whatever happened to the NHLFA? Maybe they would have good lists of people to organize.
EDIT: If there were a way to coordinate with other fan bases around the league, I bet you could get great hits out of the Canadian markets. These boards might help.

Well the bee shack is a little old place
Where we can get together
Bee shack bay-bee, the Bee shack baby!!
Sorry, couldn't resist. In serious mode, there is nothing a normal fan can do to force them to agree.
Sorry I disagree with the whole boycott thing. Always have in part because I am an individual with the ability to think and speak for myself.
I have a friend who once said we should boycott Mobil. Really I said. Interesting. That may cost me my job as my company sells a lot of product through Mobil so if you're going to pay my bills I guess it makes sense. That was the end of the discussion.
Boycott is one thing, protest is another. And simply voting with your own wallet and not renewing your tickets for example is a combination of both that YOU individually can make a statement by doing.
Me, I'm anti union. But after having been locked out seven years ago and having lost an entire season and then agreeing to a system the owners wanted and now say they cant live with? I am 100% with the players on this.
Not that it really is a union issue as the money they make and what the union does for them isn't reality in the bigger sense to me. I think they're kind of like teachers unions. Completely whacked!
