This is great news. This is a contract that will be a bargain three years from now. Chia is killing it this offseason.

I wouldn't mind it. But overall you can't complain about this contract whatsoever. Very happy fan today.

Nope!

Not that I think Hall's deal was worse either. But Seguin at $5.75 keeps other contracts on the team more reasonable. Six years is plenty-plenty. I couldn't realistically be happier with this deal.

No, because I don't see it mattering. Anything's possible, but as long as Chiarelli's here he's not going anywhere unless he wants to, which he says he doesn't.

As for the deal, love it. Less than Hall for a safer investment (no knock on Hall, just my opinion), and gets a couple years of UFA out of the way. Should be a perennial 35-40 gino/40 apple kind of player for pretty much the length of the deal. Deadly.

I would have preferred it, but you never know it that option was on the table or not. Agent could have asked for Eberle deal, Chia could have asked for Hall deal...so they split the difference.

Would have preferred the extra year instead (who knows what he'll be making at the end of the contract), but overall, the deal is a good one and no one should be complaining.

If you think hes going to be that type of player, then why wouldn't you have preferred the extra year? 6 mil could end up being a steal at that point.

Just playing devils advocate a bit...still absolutely love the deal.

I think it's almost a certainty that Lucic comes within that $500,000 range.

I've always envisioned it being:

Seguin 5.75
Lucic 5.5 (Perhaps coming in at Krejci's 5.25, though)
Krejci 5.25
Bergeron 5.0

And then when Bergeron's contract is up he gets bumped to 5.75.

I think this salary structure appeals to Chiarelli's OCD tendencies!

So Marchand gets a 2 mill raise, Seguin gets a two mill raise, and Lucic (the most proven out of all of them) gets a 750k raise? Sorry, I just don't see it.

I think we're looking at at least 5.5, to be honest.

Lucic also got a hell of a raise after his ELC to 4 million. Marchand didn't get that. Seguin well I think he is in a different class

I hope it's closer to 5 but i'll be happy we get him signed long term

The deal that Looch is on was given primarily based on "potential" though.

I kind of agree though, I think we're looking at $5.25-5.5 million, with a floor of $5 million. I was pleasantly surprised with the Seguin deal though, so hopefully I will be with Looch's deal as well.

Yes, it was in a thread here, as a matter of fact. I'd post it but I'm not sure how to do a search. He said the Bruins should have traded Horton and Seguin to the Oilers for Hall. It was about halfway through the 2011-11 season or thereabouts, IIRC.

True, but still.

Do you think Lucic and Marchand should be getting paid the same? I certainly don't haha.

Think he'll come around at 5.25-5.5, just a guess tho.

? Why would "raise" have anything to do with it? Lucic would be on his 3rd contract. While I won't discount that it could be upwards of $5M the increase that Marchand/Seguin got will have zero impact.
