It will absolutely have an impact, how do you think contract negotiations work? Marchand makes 4.75 on his third contract, don't you think Lucic has proven/been more successful than Marchand? Aka, he'll get more than 4.75.

The poster said Lucic will be around 4.75, which likely won't happen. Maybe not directly because of their salary increase, but Lucic' agent would be smart to ask for at least 5.25-5.5, if Marchand makes 4.75 on his third contract after only two full seasons in the NHL of nothing over 60 points, why wouldn't Lucic deserve at least 5.25?

I am mixed on it. Bruins are paying for potential.
6m a year for a 60 point guy on a 2nd SPC... Ouch... but hey if all the clubs are jumping off a bridge, you do too, I guess.

Now THIS is how you build a long-term contender: shoring up your young talent for years to come. First Marchand. Now Seguin.

In Chiarelli we trust.

I think we're looking at at least 5.5, to be honest.
I don't see what the raise amount, not the actual salary-- the raise amount that Marchand and Seguin got on their deals should have anything to do with what Lucic gets. That's some bizarre reasoning for why Lucic deserves $5.5+M. Should Bergeron get a $2M raise too when his deal is up?

you forgot the Bruins rollback...he's really a 75 point guy before checking some of his creativity at the door

I would rather pay for potential, than past performance.

Doesn't directly affect it, thats not what I meant.

Just imagine yourself as Lucic...producing more than Marchand, playing more games than Marchand, being a more important player to the organization than Marchand...and he gets a mammoth raise but you get a pedestrian one? It shouldn't happen and likely won't happen. From a personal viewpoint thats what itll look like tho.

I've always envisioned it being:

Seguin 5.75
Lucic 5.5 (Perhaps coming in at Krejci's 5.25, though)
Krejci 5.25
Bergeron 5.0

And then when Bergeron's contract is up he gets bumped to 5.75.

I think this salary structure appeals to Chiarelli's OCD tendencies!
I agree with Lucic....thought Seguin might get a bit more; but Lucic does seem to be on deck

Great deal! Thats how you build a team. Now while we're at it, let's get a new pp coach once and for all. I refuse to go 4 years being terrible on it.

Yeah kinda worried about the Lucic deal, tbh. I hope he has reasonable demands.

Very good deal for the Bruins.

Even before the Hall and Skinner deal, I had him signing at Tavares money. When they both signed, it was a slam dunk he would get in that 5.75+ ball park.

Our best and most skilled offensive forward is now locked for the next 7 years!

Enjoy the show B's fans!

The "raise" though has nothing to do with it because they weren't making comparable numbers to begin with. Sure you can compare total $ but the raise portion is completely irrelevant.

And if I'm PC I'm not going to worry about hurting Lucic's feelers because his buddy got a bigger raise than he's going to.

My guess is that Lucic Cap hit will be closer to 6 than to 5. We'll see...

But the lower the better for the team. The longer the term also.

But I have no worries. Chia is rolling right now. Don't stop there!

50M/10y. Do it Chia!

The raise amount should have nothing to do with it. Marchand was making far less than what he was worth than Lucic was, so of course he deserves a bigger raise. Lucic already got his big raise on his current deal, he doesn't deserve another $2M raise just because Marchand got one.

And your arguments for why he deserves more than Marchand are debatable. Lucic is more established in the league, but his production will be roughly equal to Marchand's from here on out (like last year). Not really sure he's more important to the team either. Lucic has had some great regular seasons the past 2 years, but he followed them up by being a passenger in the playoffs, while Marchand was one of their best forwards when they won the Cup.

In the end, I'll concede that Lucic does deserve more than Marchand (because he's more established as a player), but only slightly. Anything more than what Bergeron or Krejci make (~$5M) is an overpayment.

They should lock out players every year! errr, no nevermind.. I didn't mean that!

BUT amazing how productive PC has been in the absence of rookie camp and training camp. Good job and I look forward to watching TS19 in Black and Gold for another half decade plus!

Great contract. Figured Seguin would come in at 6-6.25 so this makes me pretty happy.

On to Looch, I hope he's here for his entire, lengthy career but i'd be a little bit hesitant to give him a long contract due to his style of play, but 4/22 this time, and an early renewal when that one ends works for me
