I wonder if the two way deal means he's expecting a lockout and wants to be able to play in Milwaukee and at least earn some coin, plus keep himself sharp for whenever the season does start...

Awesome. 2 way "prove it" deal. Glad to see it done before an OS came in.

You know that no one was going to sign Blum to an OS, right?

I thought it was possible. If you are a team like CBJ, WPG, DAL, OTT, or COL that has tons of cap space, why not offer him 1 year at 2 mil to get him away from us?

Maybe if we were interested in being jerks and hamstringing the Preds. We've presently got more NHL-ready defensemen than y'all as is; we don't need more. (And that still kind of freaks me out when I stop to think about it... )

If you want to worry about us poaching folks, lock up your forwards.

I know you have lots of D, not saying it fits a need, I'm just saying you guys are rebuilding and have tons of cap. Why not pay 2mil to bring him in? If he doesnt fit with the team, trade him. I was just throwing names out there.

FWIW, according to what I heard, scouts coming through Milwaukee on several occasions last season had little positive to say about Blum's value. I was told several times that he had no trade value. He's going to be brought in to give himself another chance. From what we've seen from him this summer, he's committed to making the best of the opportunity.

From what I've heard, two teams have shown great interest in him just not enough to offer sheet however.

Interesting. I had heard that his play picked up late in the year and through the playoffs, but that was well past the trade deadline. I'm really pulling for him to rebound this season and prove that he belongs in the NHL full time. Thanks!

Id say the 2 way is more of a loophole so he can still play in the AHL next year incase of a lockout. If he was on a 1 year he would not be allowed to re-enter the league without subjection to being a waiver claim. Bad asset management on the preds side of things if so. Id say we threw Blum a bone here to get some development time while keeping him NHL eligible if there is no lockout.

A two-way deal just means you get paid two different salaries in the NHL and AHL. Has nothing to do with waiver eligibility.

Glad to see Blum signed and to something this cheap. Could surprise alot of people this year. He'll have to work for it though. The depth at defense will be hard to crack.

Kudos to the OP who called the trade originally. Well done.

I just realized this, but Blum was dead last in +/- on the team last year. Obviously it's not the sole indicator of skill, but dang. He really slumped.

Hopefully he steps it up this year. The Preds could certainly use it.

The +/- looks a lot worse until you remember that the team as a whole was struggling around the time he got sent down and as the teams play picked up +/- numbers of players went up. Not to say he wasn't bottom of the pack when he went down just saying he wasn't the sole - on the team
