Roz is a pretty good player. He is solid at everything. Injuries are always the main concern with him. But he was great in the playoffs. A real force against the Hawks. Don't downplay the Brookbank signing, either. He is actually a decent D-man. More than a goon fighter. Wasn't he around 18 - 20 minutes for the ducks last year? It looks like the D will finally be balanced this year. Keith and Seabrook wore down playing over 26 minutes all the time. They are at their best around 22 or 23 minutes

With Quenneville, 2 & 7 will still play >26 mins and Leddy will be out there on the PK.

Brookbank and Rozsival are too good to be #7 dmen ,, Leddy is going nowhere , Oduya we are stuck with , Keith/Seabs are top pairing

Monty still a ? but if healthy he would be in mix as well
Thats how I see the d lineup. They probably figured Brookbank (and Olsen) skating may be less than desirable. Dmen are a premium because of potential injuries during the season. Nothing wrong with having 1 or 2 extra.

I forgot Rosival fixes the PK, PP, goaltending and lack pf physicality right?

Or like most of our D-men he is an averaged sized, none physical, none specialist D-man who does nothing but provide depth at an area we need talent and not depth.

I would have rather the Hawks spend that 6.77 million on people who might actually fill a hole and not Oduya, Brookbank and Rosival whose similarities greatly out number their differences.

No a team that has been eliminated in the first round the last 2 years and did nothing to improve it's self is moving in the right direction and one of the best teams in the NHL.

The last 2 years their average finish in the league is 11.5 out of 30 teams and thelost in the first round of the play-offs, a play-offs that more then half the league makes, that sounds mediocre to me.

I agree. Brookbank had great numbers last year, especially for a bottom pair d-man: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=3347
He also blocked 110 shots and averaged 15:36 minutes a game. Not bad for only playing a quarter of the game.

I like the Rozsival signing, especially for only $2M. They have great depth at D, even if Hammer is traded.

What saddens me is this talk of trading Hammer who I still think has a ton of room for improvement. Had we not signed Oduya to that deal we could have still brought in both Rozsival, kept Hammer and signed Brookbank...

Keith-Seabrook
Hammer-Rozsival
Leddy-Brookbank
Montador

This makes the Oduya signing look even worse if we trade Hammer.

Few things I could see:

-Hjalmarsson for Read and a late pick
-Montador to LTIR
-Olsen to Rockford once Montador is back

Read-Toews-Kane
Saad-Sharp-Hossa
Carcillo-Bolland-Shaw
Bickell-Mayers-Kruger
Hayes, Bollig

Keith-Seabrook
Leddy-Rozsival
Oduya-Brookbank
Olsen/Montador

Crawford
Emery

I never thought I would say this....but maybe Leddy is a bit over valued. It could have been his pairings, or how Q used him. But if you can fill #2 C (which has been a real trouble spot for us) then I think you do it.

Have to agree with this. Bowman made the right siging. You can never have enough quality DMen that can play ~20 Min a game

Not a bad move by Bowman, assuming Roszival's knee is alright.

Doesn't address where the defense is lacking, but he's an improvement over the similar players the Hawks have to him on D. And at this point I've stopped hoping that Bowman will fill the actual holes on the roster, so I'll take what I can get.

Unremarkable, but solid enough of a move.

I agree. As much as I like Hammer you know his head is on the block now. I still think it's a good defensive core if you swap Hammer with Oduya in there, but I just don't understand the thought process there. We didn't need that much change. Roster turnover every year is going to kill this teams chances at a Cup. They need consistency -- which is the biggest thing Bowman has failed to provide.

That's funny, considering all of the whining around here about Bowman bringing back almost the exact same roster for next year.

Sounds pretty consistent to me.

Well I haven't been around to see that as I just joined today. I'm not sure why he would do anything to mess with our offense, which was amongst the highest in the league. Of course our D-core needed work, so he brought in two guys that are definite upgrades. I'm not saying there's a big overturn in the roster this season (which is yet to be determined barring trades/signings) but since Bowman has taken the helm (minus the first year that he literally inherited a Cup team) he has turned over this roster tenfold every year. That's not a good thing and I hope this year the team can have some consistency and familiarity with each other in that regard.

Trading Hjalmarsson because we have Brookbank and Rozsival would be a terrible decision. These signings (I'd like to think) are meant to add depth. Not to trade Hjalmarsson for a moderate upgrade At 2C

It was reported that he missed over 25 games last season due to a “ head injury”. If that means concussion, then that is a concern and may be a factor in the 1 year term.

More physicality and depth in the back end is always a good thing and I don’t want Oduya playing more than 15 minutes a game, frankly. Nor do I want to see Leddy and Oduya as a tandem, unless it’s on the PP.

But Hammer is much more valuable and will bring more back in a deal. I'd rather have Oduya + 2C than just Hammer...
