Hurricanes beat writer Chip Alexander seems to believe that Boychuk will be claimed

Quote:
Per TSN, Boychuk placed on waivers. This could be an interesting 24 hours.

Talked to a couple of team officials today about Boychuk and waiver situation. It could be dicey.

Don't see how Boychuk doesn't get picked up.

Loved Zach Boychuk with team Canada but I really dont see who he would push out of the lineup if the Leafs wanted to give him a shot.

I've been waiting for Boychuk to hit waivers. I think the Coyotes should put in a claim. Our forward depth is poor and we've had a rash of injuries.

Glen Sather, claim Zach Boychuk! With Callahan and Kreider out and with our lack of depth (and with Bickel sucking and yet still playing 4th line minutes), this seems like a no-brainer.

NY Rangers could use him, but CAR and NYR have some trade history. Wouldn't CAR have floated his name out there BEFORE waiving him? You would think Carolina would call the NYR and try to get SOMETHING for him. Even a middling pick.

Doesn't make sense, and therefore I believe the NYR are not interested.

Since the order is based on points percentage in the current season, Islanders are actually unlikely to get him if there's a decent amount of interest.

We need him in Colorado. Landeskog/Downie injured for who knows how long and no ROR. Sgarbossa's the only player on the farm who can bring some offense and he's never played an NHL game so need some offensive potential out of somewhere.

In a normal season though, isn't the first month still based on the previous season, before the current season points percentage comes into effect? In which case, I have no idea how it's being done with the shortened season.

Don't you end up last in the waiver queue if you have picked someone up? Islanders have picked up four players now.

Yes. I haven't seen any specific dates for this season, but it should still be according to last year's standings.

No. The only thing that determines order is the standings.

Boychuk should get claimed. I'd like him in Colorado with the injuries and ROR not signed.

How long before some team signs one of Boychuk, Janssen or Danis?

Boychuck is already a steal to be claimed on waivers.

Danis is NHL calibre backup material today. I don't know why Edmonton waived him.

Janssen can still swing.

Danis has cleared.

Boychuk, Janssen and McLaren will clear or be claimed at noon Eastern tomorrow.

Good point. Didn't think of it since it's almost February.

Don't underestimate Snow when there is a waiver claim to be had. He's like a waiver jedi.

These are the first two teams I thought of for Boychuk.
I'll be surprised if no one takes him.

Janssen I can really see being picked up by an BEastern Conference team. It's getting chippy out here.

Sometimes you don't want to trade a player for a throw-away 6th or 7th-round draft pick. You hope he clears waivers (as the vast majority of players do) and keep him in your organization for a bit longer.

Who knows?

A conditional pick would have been fine, or a defensive prospect.
