I guess the Canes figured 3 Staals (Eric, Jordan, Jared) are better than 3 Sutters (Brandon, Brett, and Brody).
Brett's passed through waivers before so wouldn't be surprised if he passes through again. I also wouldn't be shocked if a team is looking to fill a 13th forward/4th liner and claims him also.
CAR: Brett Bellemore, Nicolas Blanchard, M-A Gragnani, Justin Krueger, Jerome Samson, Chris Terry, Justin Peters, Andreas Nodl, Brett Sutter.
MTL: Scott Gomez
NYR: Wade Redden
PHI: Brian Boucher, Andreas Lilja,
SJS: Danny Groulx
TOR: Greg Scott, Ryan Hamilton, Mike Mottau, Keith Aucoin
If the Leafs are set with Reimer or the Kings are fielding offers for Bernier does anyone think Boucher or Peters is claimed for a backup spot?
I doubt either one gets claimed, but if they do then you know something is probably up. But, as it is, every team in the league has 2-3 goalies they likely believe are better than either Boucher or Peters.
Peters probably gets passed up, can't see him ending up anywhere but Charlotte this season.
Samson or Terry someone might take a flyer on though, but again if whoever claims them tries to send them to the AHL the Canes will claim them back and keep them in Charlotte for the season.
I'm assuming that Gomez and Redden are buyout waivers.
Nodl could attract some interest, although of non-tough guys slip through waivers before the regular season.
Decent 2-way player though who hasn't hit his stride offensively in the NHL yet,. but looked like a good bet to be a scorer in college/Flyers rookie camps.

So are these players on waivers to play in the AHL or the NHL?
Why are players that were in the AHL already being placed on waivers?
Teams don't need these players. Taking up roster space. Some of them might have to be on waivers for logistical reasons, but they could afford to lose them.
If they are on NHL contracts and are waiver-eligible they technically have to clear to play in the ahl.
Most of the Canes players cleared waivers in September, before the lockout and have been in the AHL all along (weren't even called up to for training camp). I guess with the new CBA and start to the NHL season, they need to go through again? Sutter was at camp for 1 day to have enough bodies for a scrimmage. Nodl is a different story though.

I recall rumors that rosters would be expanded because of the shortened/condensed schedule and expected high amount of injuries. This has not happened, correct? I assume if this were the case many of these waiver guys would have made the team.
Maple Leafs waivers: Greg Scott, Ryan Hamilton, Mike Mottau, Keith Aucoin
**** **** ****. they better clear!
exposing aucoin to waivers is playing with fire!!!
hamilton cannot go. just cannot. not as the marlies captain. i refuse to allow it.
mottau, no attachment yet, but we need the depth
scott, i like him, but wouldnt be heart broken.

That's the only way they can "get down" to the Marlies, even if they've been there all along. Must be officially put on waivers and clear to start the season. None of those guys would have made the Leafs.

Wow, are you okay? I'm a Leaf fan but wouldn't really mind losing any of the above. Hamilton maybe because I think he can be a 4th liner ... but - yeah. Aucoin's veteran presence would be replaced by Ranger.
